Its short for MMORPG which means Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

Like World of Warcraft or Everquest. People log on to their characters and play in an interactive game world.

Naw, that's where the whole "assumption" bit comes in--you can't just say "oh, everybody knows the origin, so let's just skip that part and move on, everybody".

The whole point of a remake is to introduce a franchise/film to a whole new audience/generation. Take the other post on TMB, for example, the one about Jem, that 80's cartoon--a few of the people (including me) didn't know who or what Jem was; and now that they're remaking it/rebooting it, a few of us are interested in it. The old ones, too, might wanna come back and see it.

Frankly, I see remakes as great marketing strategies--kinda like exhuming a corpse and pinching it's pockets to see if there're any nickels still left.....some pull it off while others go horribly off track: I don't agree with you on the Hulk thing; I disliked both of 'em, but Norton's Hulk was marginally better, yes.

A better example, in my opinion, would be the Batman franchise.....enough said, right?

And say whatever you want about Ang Lee's Hulk, Ang Lee is a good director. I don't know about this guy doing the new Conan film. The two movies they decided to put on the poster don't impress me at all.

I love Conan as a character and I loved the first film by Milius. I hope this guy surprises me and makes a good film. One can only hope.

I view Lee's Hulk as the first theatrical realease and not a remake. There was a TV series and TV Movies based on that series, but no theatrical release before. Its an adaptation.

And while the Incredible Hulk doesn't acknowledge the first, its not a remake of that film but rather ANOTHER adaptation of the same source material.

Neither are remakes.

Would Ang Lee's "Hulk" even be considered a remake considering it's the first theatrical film?

Studios need to learn a key lesson in two recent "remakes."

Hulk & Hulk. One remake told the entire origin story, a story we all already knew, and it was a boring film. The remake of the remake, with Edward Norton, skipped right past the origin story and treated the audience with a tiny bit of respect, just moving the story forward. It was a fantastic, action-packed film.

People know the origin story from the original Conan film. Why redo that? Just take Conan and give him some quest(s), have him continually kick ass and surround him with others who continually kick ass, too. We don't need the damn origin story again.
