A Couple of Dicks will have less Dicks

Looks like the double entendre title of Kevin Smith’s Couple of Dicks won’t have any Dicks. Yes, I referenced a double entendre then continued to use a double entendre! Im clever like that.

Anyways, early on in production Kevin Smith considered changing the name to something less suggestive, and decided against it moving forward with the bold Couple of Dicks title. But now it looks like the Networks set to air the trailers on TV find the name offensive and are refusing to allow the commercials to air using that title.

Screen Junkies reports:

Censorship has struck again, and not even Kevin Smith can wield his mighty sword to defeat it. The TV networks are prudes and don’t like dirty words in their adveeeertissments (I wrote it like a proper British person would say it), so Smith’s new comedy is changing “Dicks” to “Cops” for a title of A Couple of Cops, and the result is not double-entendre-y.

So the less suggestive, less impacting and less amusing title will be A Couple of Cops? bleh. Boring.

I do find it puzzling since Smith released a film called Zack and Miri make a Porno, and that was publicized on TV and posters, but saying Dicks is too offensive?

Censorship is crazy nowadays; people get offended over the stupidest things.

  2. 420BAND says:

    Censorship “DICKS” strike again!

  3. cloud720 says:

Weren’t there ads that just called the movie “Zack and Miri”? That way the network still advertised the movie without using a “dirty” word

Wjy not censor former VP ‘Richard Cheney’? See that on the news all the time. Wasn’t Nixon always called Tricky Dick? This is stupid. I watched The Cleveland Show last night where he threw up all over the Thanksgiving meal and his father simulated fisting a Turkey, and that was cool to show.

  5. Clinky says:

Yeah, Smith’s last movie was “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” and it did not do as well as hoped at the box office, so that may explain the willingness to change the title.

  6. AARON says:

Zack and Miri was really funny. But, let me get this straight. They kinda sorta advertise the name “Porno” (by kinda sorta, I mean remember it was only advertised on TV as “Zack and Miri” but they find the word “dicks” more offensive then “porno” nah. don’t censor it, let Kevin Smith do his thing, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Smith stated at his Q&A in Dallas a couple of weeks ago that going through the title ordeal with Zack & Miri wasn’t worth the struggle. He said that while when he was just starting out he may have had the attitude of “stick it to the man” and refused to change his title, now he would pretty much let them name it whatever.

  8. Corey says:

For advertising purposes on his last film they changed the name to just Zack and Miri. TV networks didn’t let them have promos with the word “porno” in it. But network shows can use the word “bitch” but won’t show a movie title with “dicks” in it? That’s retarded

This is the first time Smith isn’t working for, well, himself! He may very well be under pressure from the studio to change the name as well. I do aree that he could do better than “A Couple of Cops.”

Additionally, Zach and Miri make a Porno was MOSTLY advertised as just “Zach and Miri.” It was advertised with the full title early on, but they eventually ran it down to just “Zach and Miri,” and they pulled most of the advertisements with the full title outside of the View Askew network of websites.

Smiths also gettin older, you get older some things that you opposed and fought for the spite of it ,now you go “Fuck it” and keep moving forward

I hope in the actual movie when they run the title it at first says this title but then changes it to have the real title on it.
