Wes Craven may Direct Scream 4

The Scream franchise had a solid start, the second wasn’t bad but wasn’t great either and the third made no sense. I was so done with that franchise and now I am getting sucked in again at the prospect of the original cast members returning.

And rumours of Wes Craven actually directing too.

CinemaBlend says:

So far we know that Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox are on board to return in some capacity; but just exactly who’s directing this thing has been something of a mystery. Tonight we’ve learned from reliable sources that Wes Craven, who directed all three previous Scream movies, is back at the helm.

Now Craven left the Nightmare on Elm Street movies in other hands, and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare was a fresh look back to the franchise and one that I really liked. But on the other hand, Wes had the fancy folding chair for all the Scream movies.

Track record considered I still have faith in Wes Craven and I hope he does something cool with the 4th part (Sidney is the killer!).

  1. Wow! I LOVE Wes Craven… he is definitely a master of horror/suspense and all things scary. And the first Scream was awesome. But after two sequels enough is enough. Can’t he just move on from that? Even when movies are successful sometimes it is enough already. Same thing with the whole Saw phenomenon… Saw VI, are you kidding me?? (But of course I’ll have to see it since I already invested time in the first 5!)

  2. The first Scream was a revelation, such a brilliant dissection of the horror genre, and it’s only gotten better with time.

The second one was full of interesting ideas and there were enough unanswered questions from the first movie to justify the sequel. But Scream 2 fell apart after Jamie Kennedy’s character was killed off. Basically, after his wonderfully tense death scene, the movie just lost it’s edge and became a standard issue predictable slasher movie. It threw away all its capital with a preposterous, over-acted, totally unimaginative ending. (BTW – the right ending would have been to have random copycat killers who were totally unknown to the leads, just joy-killers who were emulating the killers from the first film… and to have a lot of them… a whole gang)

The 3rd movie was an abortion. Didn’t Ehren Krueger write it? I remember at one point he was considered a hot new writer, but every movie with his name attached has been terrible.

  3. It will be great. Wes said he wont come back unless its a great script. Kevin didnt write the 3rd, so with him, Neve, Courtney, David and Wes, it will be hard for it not to be better than the last. I think it will be great. Sidney will not be the killer, it will be pretty obvious if shes not getting attacked or called the whole movie while everyone else is. Oh, and the script is halfway done. Kevin’s twitter keeps you posted on at least that much. Wes said that they had dinner and the script sounds amazing.

  4. First one was good but that’s about it. Craven does have some awful movies under his belt. Just because he’s coming back, doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be great; to me at least. I don’t know, I think they should’ve left it as one good one and that’s it…
