Blade was a complete unknown supporting cast character before he got his own film. It was not marketed as a comic book movie and the character didn't even have his own title until after the movie.

Its more accurate to say that the movie was credit for getting Blade his own book, but it wasn't a "comic book movie" like Hollywood was already shaking its head at. Remember, Superman was still struggling in limbo at that point too.

Even One Hit Wonders release another song, doesn't mean it will be accepted on the market.

Spawn cost $40million to make and pulled in $54. After promotion they would be lucky if that broke even. Wouldn't say it was a bomb, but hardly a success.

I think i tried to say this before but Hollywood did Spawn after the Batman movies.

That movie didn't revive anything but it didn't take 6 6 for Hollywood to make a comic book movie after Batman and Robin.

I don't see him taking Magneto for two basic reasons:

1. It already has a director at this time (Goyer)

2. In this interview, Singer said he would NOT be interested due to the fact that he's done enough films with WWII/Nazi Germany themes in them.

While I hope he goes for X-Men 4, and has a film that continues on after Last Stand, I think there is more of a chance he wil look into Wolverine II which would not only re-unite him with Hugh Jackman, but also his Usual Suspects scribe Christopher McQuarrie.

I have to agree with Rodney. On top of that, Blade didn't even HAVE his own 'headline' comic. He was a supporting character in 'Tomb Of Dracula'. The films actually popularized the character.

X-Men (and Spider-Man two years later) burst open the floodgates.

Yes, what a shocking story. Bryan Singer leaves the X franchise to direct Superman Returns, which for all intents and purposes, fails. Then he follows that up with Valkyrie, which similarly underperformed. Now he wants to return to the X franchise, which in its last outing, The Last Stand, made almost as much as Singer's last two films combined.
