Singer takes on Jack the Giant Killer

Bryan Singer has signed on for a film adaptation of Jack the Giant Killer, a fairy tale that is better known by the variants The Valiant Little Tailor or Jack and the Beanstalk.

Movie Web says:

The script is being written by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard). It all starts when a princess is kidnapped, and this causes problems between the peaceful existence between men and giants. At this point, “a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.”

It sounds like this adaptation is also based on the classic fairy tale and not a remake of the 1962 film of the same name.

Should be interesting to see a modern take on such a classic tale. I hope its fun.

How can you ever top either Mickey Mouse’s version where he kills ten flies with one blow and people mistake that as ten giants or the Abbot and Costello movie? :D

Singer has some serious work to do if he wants to compete with those classics!

    needs more beans. MAGIC beans.

Great. Singer’s always done a great job, whether it was X-Men or X2, the underrated Superman Returns, and Valkyrie, which made my top ten of the year.

    Can’t wait for this movie.

Boy o’ boy, Singer is trying to be a busy man these days. First he wants to do a movie reboot of Battlestar Galactica, go back to doing an X-Men movie, and now this. Well good for him. I love his work and the more I get to see the better.

I think this is a cool idea and it’s nice to see he’s willing to try a little bit of a fantasy type. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
