Rambo 5 will fight Werewolves in the Artic?

Posted by on 07. 09. 2009in News Chat

With news that another Rambo film is on its way we are getting conflicting reports on what the plot will revolve around.

We were told Rambo was coming home to fight on US soil, then we were told it was to rescue a kidnapped girl, then it was fighting mexican outlaws, and now he is fighting werewolves in the artic.

Wait, did I just say that? Yeah, the latest “news” is that a leaked synopsis has been put out that Rambo 5 will be called The Savage Hunt. Check out the scanned “official synopsis”

Since when has Rambo ever tread this close to the supernatural or superscience like this. Part of the appeal of Rambo is that his conflicts are grounded in a real world. Granted his one-man-army takes a little suspension of disbelief, but would it really serve the franchise at all to have him battling something so unreal in a real world.

Don’t get me wrong, I am sure a movie with a gifted soldier fighting against a genetically altered failed experiment savage creature may be a great synopsis for an action flick, it just doesn’t fit with Rambo. At all.

I call bullshit. And I hope I am right.

  1. jami says:

    super weird.

  2. Loki says:

They should just make Rambo vs Predator! That would be awesome

  3. Yeah, this is retarded, and like John said..bullshit.

This is NOT official. Only a troll would buy this.

    • Johnson says:

If AICN is anything to go by this is quite official according to Sly’s comments.

I’m not sure how i feel about the direction Rambo may take. On one hand the Rambo is kinda grounded in the real world but after 3 movies of pretty much the same thing (Rambo 2,3 and 4)i don’t blame Sly for wanting to branch out and change it up but this does come off sounding like Rambo V Predator ;p

    • Thats really sad.

      I still cant buy it.

A movie that has Rambo fighting monsters will be a direct insult to my IQ

      • Jim says:

but killing entire armies while not getting hit affirms your IQ?

      • Jake says:

That never happens. The only time I can think of that that happened was in the new one, but only due to strategy and careful timing. I can believe that one man can take out a small army with strategy and careful timing. There’s plenty of military equipment and gadgetry that’s built precisely for that purpose.

    • bernardg says:

Having said that, most movie execs are trolls! :P

  4. SlashBeast says:

Doesn’t sci-fi defeat the purpose of Rambo?

  5. Andy says:

I can’t see them following that storyline and the one about him rescuing a girl, some say his daughter, is much more likely.

Why spoil a successful series by taking it out of it’s comfort zone and trying to movie into a new sci-fi area.

  6. After the last Rambo film how in the world can he sell this idea with a straight face. It seems absurd and I love Rambo.

  7. leeloo says:

    no sparkley vampires?
    downer.

  8. 1-7 says:

Rambo has become a self-parody. First Blood was actually a good film, but Rambo has since become a caricature. This idea looks like the series has finally jumped the shark.

  9. Walker says:

maybe its not yet OFFICIAL because htey havent finished the script or something, but SLY HIMSELF said he will be fighting some kind of beast. Go to AICN and LISTEN to his voicemail…

  10. Dragonslayer says:

    BULLSHIT!!!!!

  11. Anti-Septic says:

I thought all th3e films after the first one were absurd. So bring on whatever absurdness rumor they have and make this the most absurd of the bunch.

Maybe he will be fighting gremlins too?

  12. MEDavidson says:

Prediction: Beau ain’t gonna make it.

  13. Bobby says:

We’ve seen a lot of aspects of Rambo in the past &
now… this sounds highly entertaining, action
packed, and just plain Bad Ass!!!!

I know I’ll be there come opening day to enjoy the
    action and so will you!!!

    Bring it on Rambo!!!

  14. DON says:

I want to see Rambo hold the werewolf by the neck and just squash it. Yeah that would be retarded but awesome.

  15. darkadd says:

if my memory serves correct this is a story from a book called “hunter” by james byron huggins. it was writen in 99 in a 80′s action genre same plot outline and everything the authur even based his main character on sylvester stallone.

  16. War-Journalist says:

Granted, it sounds like a good idea for a fan-fiction, but there is no way in hell this could ever be taken seriously by a studio, much less the public.
John Rambo is a character grounded in realism. A Vietnam war veteran who can’t get over the horrors of his past, and can’t find a place for himself in the modern world.
They’re going to take THAT and mix it up with a werewolf. Science has nothing to do with Rambo. It’s not his genre. It’s worse than when they made Indy 4 about aliens. DOES NOT COMPUTE!

I’d honestly rather see Johnson’s idea: Rambo vs Predator. Why not go the whole 109 yards?

  17. steve says:

I really hope it doesn’t go that route, I agree with the first poster that the appeal of the character is that it is in the real world.

However saying that, what original story COULD Rambo do?

  18. I’ll go out on a limb and say Rambo does, in fact, fight a pack of wolves. They aren’t supernatural werewolves, just a pack of wild wolves. Maybe he’s living off the land and they want his scraps.
(It may also be a throwback to First Blood, since he killed hunting dogs)

The “team” part sounds slightly reasonable, given the last film. But who is this Beau fella? Rambo has been pretty much the loner type. And why take a 22 yr old “hunting partner” with him on this “sensitive”mission? I mean, if you are info’d that this thing killed a bunch of “elite guards”…

Werewolf? Predator? No, it’s the Thing, finally hatching out of Kurt Russell and/or Keith David!

So here’s what I think. It may in fact be a (stupid) proposal, however rejected. I can see Rambo taking on a drug cartel, or perhaps going to fight against terrorists in the Middle East. (Hunting Bin Laden, he comes across someone else, etc) or maybe modern day pirates etc. keeping it topical.

This is Rambo. Not Judge Dredd.

  19. MEDavidson says:

Let’s just say this is the last Rambo movie. Let’s just say. Then why not give the man his due? He beets the terrorists / bad guys during some sort of action in D.C. and saves the country. He’s given the hero’s welcome he’s never had.

To me ( if IT IS the last) — that’s a “duh” thing. Give the people what they want. Give the character what he deserves / he earned.

  20. Shades says:

Just wanted to say, I’ve read the book (but its been a while) and am a fan of the author. First of all, it’s NOT a werewolf. It’s a human form crossed with a DNA science experiment gone wrong. There’s some supernatural/spiritual stuff (if I recall correctly) I’d imagine they’ll drop in the adaptation, but it should make for a great action movie. The Beau character sounds like a lame add on though. I don’t think he’s part of the original book.

And let’s face it – Rambo has obliterated entire armies now, what’s left to challenge him? A government led scientific muck-up resulting in a horrific but intelligent unstoppable force sounds like a match for Rambo that “could” work. There’s doubt of course, but the original material could be adapted to Rambo successfully I think.

  21. Hassleberry says:

Who would win in a fight, Rambo, Jack Bauer, James Bond, or Chuck Norris?

  22. thematticus says:

There are not enough L’s and O’s that would fit in this comment I am laughing so hard.
This sounds like a good cheesy movie, but not a rambo movie. It would be something completely different with the Rambo name slapped on.
    I don’t think so.

  23. James says:

The last film ended on the perfect note too…

  24. vargas says:

I have never been interested in any Rambo movie. Until now. Anything with werewolves (or werewolf-like creatures) I’m game for!If this is actually real I might just go and see this.

  25. party marty says:

I think the term beast is figurative, Im sure it will be a soldier who has gone through insane levels of brutal training, and a plausible amount of DNA manipulation, or at least I hope so.

  26. Norge says:

    Haha, lol!

Beau Brady is a character from the soap opera Days of our Lives. No way would someone name a Rambo’s sidekick Beau Brady.

    Plus, werewolves…farfetched much?
