Lebron James To Star In New Comedy “Fantasy Basketball Camp”

As most of you guys know, I HATE it when non-actors get major roles in movies. Sorry, but I’ll take a guy who has been training in acting most of his life, has done stage work and practiced his craft and put in his hours developing his chops over a frigging rapper/sports star/country singer any dam day of the week.

With that being said, like with every thing in life there are some exceptions… and this MIGHT be one of them.

Hollywood mega-producer Brian Grazer is taking as he’s cast basketball superstar Lebron James in his new project “Fantasy Basketball Camp”.

But here’s the thing… James will be playing… HIMSELF in the movie.

The movie, a comedy, will be about 3 guys going to Las Vegas (it already sounds like “The Hangover”) to participate in a celebrity adult basketball camp being run by their hero, Lebron James. However, Lebron gets pulled into the different issues the three guys hare having with their lives.

Sounds like more of an idea for a SNL skit, but whatever. If James is just playing himself… then it could be ok. What do you think? (source: Screencrave)

  1. The guy is insanely charismatic, quite funny, and personally, I love watching him even in interviews on The Daily Show or things like that, and his amazing commercials for nike or whatever. Having him play himself in basically the Mike Tyson role from The Hangover (the best part of the film aside from Ed Helms’ brilliant piano song), has me more than interested.

  2. ACTUALLY, I have more worry in that Brian Grazer is producing and that the premise itself sounds really dumb and just kinda shitty. More than having LeBron in the film, the reason that I won’t end up seeing this film is that the story sounds beyond lame.

he was great in SNL so hes got that going for him. also justin timberlake should strictly do comedy movies, his comedic timing is great.

  4. thematticus says:

No.No.NO. Concept bad, acting will be worse. Don’t make an exception for this film,John, this will turn out to be exactly WHY you don’t like non actors in these movies.

  5. Iceberg says:

John, I agree with you 100%, but If Jordan can play him self in Space Jam, then I’ll give LBJ a pass. I’m the biggest Michel Jordan fan In NY (regardless of what he did to my Knicks). And I’ll be the 1st to say LBJ at 24, has acolplished way more then MJ did at the same age. I have a feeling he’s even a better player then MJ at 24. Remember MJ didn’t start being MJ till 28….then came the movies, the mega deals. All witch LBJ has already….
But Yes MJ is still the best to ever do it, but if anybody can get close is LBJ

  6. Oh great…

  7. Bryan says:

Maybe LeBron should stick to b-ball instead of spreading himself thin with these side projects. and maybe we should stop comparing him to MJ, at least until he wins something. Before he can enter MJ’s class, maybe he should try surpassing Tim Duncan, Kobe, and Shaq.

  8. Snake Eyes says:

This is either going to be horribly bad or just okay…can’t see it being great although you never know.

  9. SlashBeast says:

    LeBron James is un-fucking-stoppable!

  10. Fode says:

as a diehard cavs fan, this shows all those New Yorkers who think that Lebron needs to play in NYC to get exposure in 2009.

the kid made 100 million dollars from nike before he ever stepped foot on an NBA court, he earned his reputation in the state of Ohio…and now hes got a Documentary getting mass release in the fall, and landed himself a role as himself(only goin to help with his brand) in a comedy….all from the shores of lake erie….proud of ya lebron.keep doin big things.

    FORGET the haters….

  11. sdn says:

if he really immerses himself in the character, i could see it working.

  12. Governor says:

Can’t we ever just celebrate success?

  13. Mike Mai says:

ugh, i’m sick of seeing this arrogant douche in basketball already now he’s gonna be in movies? fuck that.
