Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – A Brilliant Movie And 3rd Biggest Sept Opening Of All Time

Hey guys, I’m really sorry I didn’t get around to putting up a full review of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, but things just got far too crazy this weekend.

But let me kill two birds with one stone here. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” just became the third biggest September boxoffice opening of all time (just behind Sweet Home Alabama and Rush Hour). It also needs to be mentioned that this movie deserves every ounce of success it manages to get.

I’m not normally excited about non-pixar animated movies, and I wasn’t excited about seeing this one either… but holy crap… it’s fantastic.

No, the movie doesn’t have anywhere near the depth or heart that a Pixar film has… it pretty much stays in shallower waters, and it’s ok with that. But what it does do is ENTERTAIN you. Seriously… this movie is a light, giddy treat. So many funny moments. Me and the people who saw it with me have been quoting it all weekend.

Mr. T. does one of the key voices in the movie… and is HILARIOUS.

The bottom line is I LOVE this movie. It’s very simple, very light, but it makes you smile and giggle the whole way through, and for that, I ended up very much appreciating it for what it was. Go see it… seriously… go see it.

  1. I’m glad it’s an entertaining movie beause the kiddies out there deserve them. The book this movie is based on though really it’s more inspired by was a childhood favorite. The movie looks lame to me compared to the fun story I grew up with. It’s one of those cases I feel prejudice and can’t separate my “they’re two different mediums” feelings.

  2. I’ll go see it later in the week when it’s not as packed. I went to see the Informant! instead, which absolutely fantastic. I was interested in seeing cloudy, it was just packed with way too many kids this weekend.

  3. Yeah, I really wasn’t looking forward to this film myself. Honestly, I’m not a fan of most non-Disney Animation, non-Pixar animated films being released these days, and even my faith in the former was just recently renewed with last year’s Bolt (which, simply for having such a powerful lasting effect on me, has topped Pulp Fiction as my favorite movie of all time). Sure, every once in a while, a brilliant movie such as Coraline will come along…but that’s one of the relatively few exceptions from this decade.

Having said that, this movie is the shit. Quite possibly the funniest animated movie I’ve ever seen, in fact. Go see it, folks!

  4. Hey John,

I’ve noticed you’ve been saying “I don’t normally go for animated films outside of Pixar” for a while now. And every year you find an non Pixar animated film that you love.

    Just sayin
