Captain America WWII Period Piece and Abomination Signs for Three Films

I keep repeating how impressed I am with how Marvel is slowly simmering their franchises together to make the impossible film. It was long said you couldn’t do an X-Men film because there was too many characters and too much backstory. They made it work, but I didn’t think it would go so smoothly trying the same formula on Avengers.

First we hear about how Captain America will be released months before the Avengers. But what will that movie entail? We get a hint from Louis Leterrier who has seen the concept art.

io9.com quotes The LA Times

It’s a period piece and it’s like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and with more gadgets…[I]t’s “Raiders” meets “Rocketeer” and “Saving Private Ryan.” It’s going to be so cool.

I said a long time ago that a WWII era film for Captain America ending with Steve Rogers defeating the Red Skull and becoming frozen in ice would be a perfect leadup to his thaw and revival before joining the Avengers film later that year. I am glad to see they are going that way instead of just showing a 20 minute origin and having it be a modern story.

But speaking of Avengers, do we even have an idea on who the villain will be? This might be a good lead. Quoting ComicBook Resources io9.com

says:Tim Roth revealed that his has signed to play the Abomination in three films, leading to some speculation that the Abomination could appear in The Avengers film, or in some of the potentially interlocking films leading up to it

Now they say he is signed to play the Hulk villain in 3 films, but they don’t say which ones. A Hulk sequel? Avengers? Is this a “if he is in the movie you have to hire me” contract or is it a done deal. 3 more appearances of Abomination?

Abomination was really just an evil version of the Hulk, so maybe they will use him as the Avengers baddie. I would prefer to see the Avengers focus on a Hulk storyline eventually enlisting him into their ranks, but this could be a parallel to that plot – a Hulk replacement, without turning him good in the end.

I just hope they get John Williams to do the score for it!

  2. Simple Simon says:

    Cool.

  3. Matt Keith says:

I hope they bring The Abomination back b/c one of the things that I was curious about was what were they gonna they after Hulk let it live, even though I thought the film would have been better if Hulk snapped its neck with that chain.

  4. Seth Rex says:

You know, Rodney, it could possibly have him in a cameo in Iron Man, but not sure. I think it was Stark Industries that was gonna help contain him, right? That could help lead to the eventual HULK BUSTER armor that Stark would eventually have, like in the comics.

So if Abomination is going to be in it, I wonder if Norton will come back, or if they are going to recast the role again.

    ww2 + cap + red skull + nazis = me there.

this is pretty much exactly what wanna see for a cap movie. plus bucky has got to be in there, hopefully for some future winter soldier stories.

  7. I fucking prdicted Ab would be the villain for fture Marvel films when Doug Nagy said ‘Why did they keep him alive?!” and you all said I was wrong.

  8. Audioout says:

He recently hinted that a Hulk character or two could be in The Avengers. It never even occurred to me he could have meant Abomination.

    I actually like it.

The way they’re describing the Capt. America film sounds crazy, but I love it. And I totally agree with you Rodney, them starting out with the WWII Capt. story and then thawing him in the Avengers movie is just perfect.

As for Abomination possibly popping up in 3 Marvel films, I loved him in the Hulk movie and would love to see him more and what looks like could be allot more. But when and where? Really gets you wondering doesn’t it?

It’s really cool though because it’s just another one of those pieces of the huge puzzle Marvel is trying to put together with it’s most beloved characters, all on the big screen, for every one to love.

The Impossible film would not be The Avengers. No…

Marvel is sure paving the way for the Avengres film and is interconnecting all of their characters beautifully. They seem to be very organized in what they do and have thought of all of this years before! But even if they manage to get all the characters’ rights to one studio and produce a great Avengers film…what could follow that?

The Impossible film in my opinion would be the Secret Wars film. THAT is a film they can never make that would be AWESOME if they could! Those who’ve read the series know what I’m talking about! ;)

  11. MichoPower says:

So does anyone know if all the original cast are going to return in their respective characters in the Avengers film??? Sorry I been under a rock for awhile!!! Man, could you imagine RDJr and EdN in the same film…massive star power!!!

    • Kaneda979 says:

Well last I heard Edward Norton may or may not return as Eric Banner at all, however that was some time ago.

But IMDb says he is up to come back for the Avengers movie, so hopefully they are right.

Still looks like no Hulk 2 is on the horizon though. :(

  12. JohnZDelorean says:

The Mighty Avengers have a better lineup. USAgent all day. I do agree that Bucky needs to be in the Cap flick don’t “Robin” him because then they could have him as The Winter Soldier going up against Cap. Maybe we can get a Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers movie. I need Thor Frog in my life.
