New Posters for Prince of Persia Online

In what looks like the first ever game based on a comic book that MIGHT be good video game to movie adaptation. Gasp!

I mean Jake Gyllenhaal looks absolutely badass, and very accurate to the video game imagery. I loved the video game, and the gimmick of being able to rewind time instead of losing lives was really inventive, and ridiculously fun. Now we get our first posters and a great peek at the staggering Gemma Arterton as well.

As well we get a peek at Ben Kingsley as the villain Nizam.

I can’t wait for this!! I hope it lives up.

  1. HAZMAT says:

I have to respect the “All video game movies suck” pattern and dislike anything related to this movie

    • Jake says:

People say that, but most all the videogame movies in the past few years were either directed or written by Uwe Boll. This one’s high-budget and is being directed by Mike Newell and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. It’s gotta be at least a little good.

    • HAZMAT says:

      Lol

  2. chris...the real one (also a black guy) says:

am i the only one that thinks the font doesnt fit this movie at all…and im not buying jake at all

    • Jake says:

They should have cast David Belle instead. He looks way more like the Prince. He’s even going to be Jake’s stuntmen, which is lame because he’s a perfectly capable actor.

    • HAZMAT says:

Dude you guys know that it was a tossup between Jake G. and Orlando Bloom, right?

    • Jake says:

Who cares? See District B13 and you’ll see what I mean. David Belle deserves the role.

    • HAZMAT says:

Thats old, ive seen all those parkour videos like 1000 times. Theyre awesome. Thing is he might not be a good actor

I think Jake looks good for the role…for now

    • Jake says:

I guess you have a point. I mean, Jake vs. Orlando…is this really such a difficult decision? But at the same time Belle is by no means a bad actor. Not only that but he’s the undisputed founder of parkour. This could have been his moment.

    • HAZMAT says:

Yeah i have no clue if the god of freerunning has acting skills. Maybe he does, but still, id rather just see Gyllenhaal do this

    • Rodney says:

Its very annoying when someone says “Hey this guy is great at doing one thing really well that ISNT ACTING” and we are supposed to suddenly line up to agree that some very impressive stunt man/gymnast/martial artist should have got the role before an ACTOR!

It is very fitting and effective to have Belle do his stunts. I am sure that will had TONS to the visuals and provide every last bit of his talent to this movie where it should be.

They gave Belle everything he deserved here, and using him for what he is good at.

    • EZELL says:

The African Bond chases in Casino Royale through the construction yard and embassy was a real parkour but he was playing just a bad ass action scene and was not a major character. But It is cool to know that a professional at something uses it in a film.

Like if you watch Any given Sunday Torrel Owens is in it.

    • Rodney says:

Like you said Ez, that guy didn’t have to act and had no role outside of running and jumping. Its fine to let a stuntman do that kind of role.

    • Jake says:

David Belle not an actor? That’s a bit much. He’s done a more than fine job in what I’ve seen him in thus far.

    • Rodney says:

You seem to have “stuntman” confused with “actor”

Doing stunts (or playing a purely physical role) in a movie is far different than acting.

    • Jake says:

Look, I never said that Belle should have been cast on the basis of his stuntwork in the first place. I never would have even thought of it if I weren’t impressed with his performance in District B13. He had the most dramatic role in the movie and it was convincing.

    • Jake says:

“They should have cast David Belle instead. He looks way more like the Prince. He’s even going to be Jake’s stuntmen, which is lame because he’s a perfectly capable actor.”

I guess I can see how you would take that statement and think, “Oh no, another guy that wants a stuntmen/martial artist cast over an actual actor.” But I did think this through. I’m not a complete idiot and I’m not trying to get people marching in the streets over this. I’m perfectly content with the casting choice so far, and yet…I mean, I know that this is a big-budget production and bigger names are generally the safest, but I do think that they wouldn’t have completely lost their minds if they wanted to take a so-called chance with Belle, because he is by no means a bad actor.

    • Rodney says:

I have seen B13 which is dubbed because he can’t speak very much english at all, and its hardly a “dramatic role” any more than Van Damme’s action flicks of the 80s and early 90s.

I know you are a fan of the guy, but honestly he is being used to the best of his ability. There is no way he could carry this film.

    • batdan says:

why would a gigantic movie corporation let the lead role for a pop culture icon in the hands of some relatively unknown man?

it’s about money. they cast jake, people will go just to see him. as for the poster, the thing i really like is that they’ve shown him to appear very true to the video game character. on a side note, i can see jake telling reese “gotta do some more research for the role” as he throws in another 5 hours of xbox.

i just saw max payne yesterday. man i had hopes since it had wahlberg. sadly it blew. but i have a feeling this movie will break the curse of sucky video game movies.
      1. jerry bruckheimer
      2. disney
      3. jake gyllenhaal

    • Mark says:

batdan, I can’t really argue with your “all about the money” comment, but to a lot of people into this genre I think they may go in spite of Jake being cast. The guy is not action role material; I think Ben Kingsley and Reese could both take him in a fight. I hope I’m wrong but this seems like serious miscasting, even with a billable, young actor.

I have higher hopes for this script than most video game adaptions. John August, writer of Big Fish, The Nines, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc., doesn’t have a writing credit but he is on as executive producer. This is his first time producing a feature film, and so I’m sure he’s had a hand in the story.

    • Rodney says:

      Someone hasn’t seen JarHead.

Jake is physically dominating in presence, and with Belle doing the more dramatic stunts I have no doubt in his action ability.

    • batdan says:

tonight i saw a video of jake in the film. you should have no worries about him being an “action star” – the guy looks ripped. but considering bruckheimer’s previous work, i’d bet this is more of an adventure film than action.

  3. Splint3r says:

The prince’s looks seems to be inspired by Warrior Within rather than Sands of time. Sweeet!

    • Jake says:

If this video doesn’t say, “Prince Of Persia” I don’t know what does. Anyway, I guess I’m at least glad David Belle is doing the stuntwork.

    • Rodney says:

Which is why he is doing the stunts. The stuff in that video almost looks like he is copying the stunts from PoP. Perfect fit.

He barely speaks english, and has little to no acting experience that isnt based on his stunts.

He is a stunt man and that is why he wasn’t given the gig to headline a major production like this.

  4. Robin says:

I’d love to see a good video game movie, and this looks awesome…But don’t get my hopes up yet.

I haven’t played the games before (except for a free adaption of the original 2D version), so I don’t really know anything about the storyline(s). Any good?

  5. Phil Gee says:

Blech, I hate these posters. They look like a new cologne ad, especially the second one.

  6. EZELL says:

I must admit I am a little excited for this now.

  7. dagon says:

    persia = iran.

why is a white man the prince of iran?

why is his iranian love interest a white woman?

    • Rodney says:

Really, he looks pretty dark skinned to me. As does Gemma in this.

Amazing what Hollywood can do with a little makeup.

Oh, and also, its FANTASY, not a political statement. Get over it.

    • batdan says:

he was pretty fair skinned in the game. i think the montreal designers made him ‘americanized’ to appeal to the gamers.

it’s been a while since i played the game but i think the whole “persia” title, is just in tradition of the franchise. it could be set in any country middle-easty. am i right?

    • HAZMAT says:

Not everyone in Iran is brown. Now go outside.

  8. alfie says:

glad to see gyllenhaal taking a role that will help squash those gay rumors……

  9. me says:

am I the only one who wanted to see the sands of time one translated? this one looks like its based on the 2nd game. I like the whole arrogant prince gets his ass handed to him and needs to undue what he did. Then it turns him in to what he looks there.

    • Chris says:

Umm did you even read the posters, it says Sands of Time right under Prince of Persia. Not to mention the love interest isn’t in Warrior Within all that much so it would make no sense for her to have a poster if they based it on the second game.

    • Me says:

well if you had been actually looking up info the movie and seen clips of it from the few things they’ve released it looks more like the 2nd then the first. Yeah I know it has the name and the love interest but they going with the second games character development of the prince not the first.

  10. The Pope says:

    The Villain Picture is dead

  11. Matt S says:

Well, the pictures look good I’m gonna wait for more before I get excited though. Personally, I’d love to see a Pirates of the Caribbean-esque sword and sandal epic, which is how the producers keep describing this film, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up as a Pirates of the Caribbean 3-esque sword and sandal epic. To which I say, no thank you. All too often it seems that when Hollywood says “it’s Gonna be like (insert successful movie title)” it ends up being mostly the bad parts of (insert successful movie title) cranked up to eleven.

    Fingers crossed.

  12. DG Music says:

As most video game movies…it most likely won’t live up to anything…but I still have a little incy bit of hope because of the people who were involved (producers/director).

However…in my opinion the one thing that always seems to suck balls is the story in these ‘adaptations’. So maybe the script writers will screw up. Who knows. But theres still a tiny bit of hope.

  13. Ken says:

I’ll admit that the costume an make-up designers are at their best with the character designs, because they all look like the video game characters i remember.especially Jake.but i still have major doubts about this movie.MAJOR.

  14. Louisgamers says:

i didnt know it was to do with disney?

  15. The font used on the posters is too plain it doesn’t have that “fantasy feeling”, u know what I mean?

  16. Vitamin A says:

I think the movie is going to be pretty good. its probly gonna be like the fist Pirate’s of the Caribbean.

  17. mojomann says:

I agree the font on the poster just doesn’t work. I have seen a couple shots of Jake and he looks good as the prince. I’m totally OK with David Belle doing the stunts and not the acting and for the record he was not in Casino Royale. I’m not sure who was Daniel Craig’s double for the movie but it was not David.

After checking with IMDB, David is not even listed as doing stunts for POP but rather as ‘parkour coordinator’. Sounds like he will be planing the stunts and rather than actually doing them.

  18. Ifaz says:

I know Gyllenhaal is a good actor. But I have never really liked him. Well he definitely looks good in this one. I pretty much like Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley is a’right.

  19. I hope Jake got a pretty good & even tan for this movie

  20. L.B.Shotta says:

Honestly I’m a lil disapointed in the film with out even watching it. Its not politically correct. There isn’t one single person on the cast that is Persian or has persian decent. If any one knows there history, they know that persia today is now Saudi arabia. I don’t see not one arab actor in the whole film.

    • Rodney says:

So you haven’t even seen the film and you have already decided not to like it? Because no one is Persian? Well they look pretty persian to me.

So what if they are not Persian, and who are you to say that every member of the supporting cast isn’t Arab? You don’t know that.

Who cares if they are Persian? Because even if they were Persian they would STILL be playing something they are not. That’s what actors do… they play the part of people they are not. A little makeup, the right outfit and the whitest half indian man on the planet is suddenly a dead ringer for Gandhi. Or the Swiss Russian bald headed Brenner is suddenly the King of Siam.

That you are choosing to hate this film over such inconsequential things is just narrow minded thinking. Watch the movie. Hell, even try to enjoy it. Dont get hung up on the inconsequential. You ruin it for yourself before it even gets the chance to ruin it for you.

      • L.B.Shotta says:

I didn’t say I hated it. Just dissapointed in the casting. Brilliant actors, all. Especially with Sir Ben Kingsly on the cast. But never the less, its just not true to the name. I’ll enjoy it because I enjoy any thing by Jerry Bruckheimer and I’m a huge fan of the game. But I am just stating a fact.

      • Rodney says:

And ninja supernatural time traveling princes are clearly true to the “real” Persia.

Just getting bent over something inconsequential.

      • L.B.Shotta says:

Ninja; some what. Supernatural; depends on POV and beliefs. Most stories done by hollywood are frabricated to an extreme. My problem is not necessarily with Prince of Persia itself. More or less with hollywood. I’m not gonna argue and say your wrong, especially about Brenner. You can say the same for Lou Diamond Phillips and Pacino. Its just that they allways, in my opinion take away the credit from the surrounding race of the stories. Thats like Atila, if you’ve seen that, starring Gerard Butler. Now I love Gerard Butler, but if you look up photos of Atila he is an asiatic man. Very chinky eyes, almost midnight black hair. he was mongolian decent migrated to eastern europe for being chased off the borders o china. Gerard butler caries none of those characterictics. But like you said, inconsequential. When I get in the business, im gonna change that

  21. Rodney says:

Then its a good thing this is a contemporary film. Very modern and up to date.

As a graphic designer I can tell you that your rationale to this poster is basically the exact opposite of what makes sense.

I like how Jake and Gemma look for the movie, but I agree, the font is flat and boring and needs to be updated to match the game and era that the film takes place in.
