Rathbone Promises More Action in Twilight’s New Moon

Posted by on 17. 06. 2009in News Chat

In one of the scenes we see in the New Moon trailer we get a peek at Jasper, the newest to the “vegetarian vampire” loose his calm when Bell accidentally exposes her well concealed blood collection and this sparks a conflict between Jasper and Edward.

Well Jackson Rathbone suggests that is not the only action we will get in the film.

io9.com gives us:

In regards to the scene where he gets flung into a piano by a pasty Robert Pattinson, Rathbone hinted that he gives as good as he gets: “That’s only the beginning of it. They didn’t show the entire thing. It’s gonna be a really action-packed movie.”

I am in the process of reading the book, and the scene written there is about as elaborate as we saw in the trailer. Bella cuts herself, Jasper goes feral and Edward introduces his spine to a piano. The rest of the scene is just family removing a now embarassed Jasper from the scene and tending to the tossed Bellas cuts.

Sounds like they are stepping up some of the action to give us a little more flash for our admission.

  1. Rocket says:

Because THAT’S what all the 15 year old girls are looking forward too in Twilight, action. They should just have a warewolf vs “vampires” no shirt contest. Of course the “vampires” would win because the sparkle.

  2. Rocket says:

    My apologies, I’m drunk.

Looking forward to the movie :)

  3. HAZMAT says:

Yeah but, why dont the werewolves have arms?
Theres parts in the books were they grab vamps and tear them in half, and they paw at the Vampires and grab shit and people…why do the wolves look like regular ol’ dogs? Thyere supposed to literally “stand” and “grab” stuff

That better be just a shot of Jacob as a wolf in all fours and later he stands up

The 3rd one has the most action in all books, and the 4th one just pisses me off

But its a romance not an action movie so whatever.

    • Jeremy K. says:

Uh, I think you may want to reread the books. I think they pretty much describe them as looking like giant wolves. Not the typical werewolf, stand on two feet and swing with the arms, type. Any reference to grabbing would more than likely mean grabbing by the mouth/teeth. I’ll have to reread them again to, but I am pretty sure they described as looking like giant wolves.

    • HAZMAT says:

In the last book she says verbatim that they “stood up in a straight line” in the baseball field when they last faced the vulturi

They also stand up straight and theres a part when Seth GRABS a certain vampires arm and tears it off

Tears IT OFF by separating with the use of two hands.

The way that Jasper teaches the wolves to fight is the same way they fight, evade and then grab with arms around the torso, and then bite their necks and rip off what you can. A dog cannot possibly do that.

I knew theyd fuck up the wolves, i freaking knew it. Hopllywood LOVES making things that should be easy into shit they fuck up and they make look like its rocket science…you cant fuck up deadpool and twilight and freaking movies based on books, ITS ALREADY WRITTEN FOR YOU, its spoon fed to you like youre a baby, Watchmen, TDK, spiderman, these movies shouldnt have that many flaws…that concept art from deadpool that was just posted..WTF!? How far off is that!? When did deadpool EVER look like that?! His picture is in every comic book, how do you mess this up?
Same with the wolves, how do they fuck something up that is written down word by word? I have no idea, it is beyond me.

    • Meli says:

I think you’re misinterpeting the writing Hazmat, the wolves are numerous times describes as large wolves, like their head would be as high as yours on while on all fours. I’ve never envisioned the wolves standing on two feet any of times I read the last three books.

    • Jeremy K. says:

I think Meli may be right, you could be misinterpreting it. I’ll try to skim through em tonight and see. Think of it this way, though, Stephenie Meyers was on site throughout the filming of the first movie. Surely she on set once again for this one as well. Not saying that a director could not straight up change the werewolves from bipeds to quadrupeds despite the author, but if this was the case I would think Meyers would put out something online stating her approval and why they changed it for nothing else than publicity and that she likes to keep her audience informed of such things.

    • Jeremy K. says:

As far as the stood up goes… If a dog, wolf, cat, or any other quadruped is sitting on its rump then comes to a standing position, would you not say “it stood up”? If group of quadrupeds did this while in a straight line, would they not be then standing in a straight line? I don’t remember at all Seth ripping somebody’s arm off “with both hands”, but when I check I won’t be surprised if he did rip somebody’s arm off; however, it will probably involve biting and yanking. Don’t remember Jasper’s training telling the wolves to grab around the waste; however, he was also training vampires at the same time, so it could have been the vampires that were directed to do so. Again, I’ll have to scan through the books to give an honest opinion, but these are possibilities that could lead to misinterpretations.

    • HAZMAT says:

Alright guys, i cant double check cuz i read my ex’s book but if you find it, let us know.

Im pretty sure that they did, because I remember that Felix was scared as shit of the last fight only because of how tall the wolves stood up and it reminded him of a fight he had with one years ago

But obviously a lot of you pictured them being regular dogs so im alone here, if someone can please skim through it if you have the book thatd be great

Oh and seth ripped Victorias friends arm off, she finds a new friend when she makes a little group of vamps and one fights seth while vivtoria fights edward, and seth rips his arm off

    • Jeremy K. says:

Yep, I’ll try not to be lazy tonight and skim around to see what I can dig up. As far as normal dogs, God no. They are described as being massive and at least one, cant remember which, standing as tall as a horse. Don’t think I have seen any normal dogs that can stand that tall. Standing, in relation to quadrupeds, is usually meant as a measurement from ground to top of head… not literally standing on two feet. So a wolf who’s head comes up to the height of a horse, that’s a pretty big dog. Also I think there was a mention of Bella almost mistaking a wolf for a bear, implying these wolves have a little more girth on em than your typical wolf as well.

    • HAZMAT says:

Yeah everyone thinks theyre black bears or grizzlies

    • Jeremy K. says:

Well, as far as the fight between Seth and Riley, there is the mention of Seth’s tail and the losing of Riley’s arm is quoted as follows: “I saw Seth sink his teeth into Riley’s shoulder and tear, jumping back again.” So that was done via biting. Still skimming through the books… but no hands involved in that one.

    • Jeremy K. says:

Soon after the fight ends with Victoria and Riley this can be read: “…both he and Riley were back, Edward with his arms full of Riley. Seth was carrying a large chunk – the torso – in his mouth.” Just as example, but if he had arms and hands you would think he would be carrying the torso with them rather than in his mouth.

Oh, here is the good one same page: “Together, the vampire and the werewolf scoured the campsite, occasionally tossing small lumps of white stone into the blaze. Seth handled the pieces with his teeth. My brain wasn’t working well enough for me to understand why he didn’t change back to a form with hands.”

That all pertains to Seth, but obviously in regard to form the werewolves take it applies to them all. I got some other stuff to do, but if you want some more examples let me know and I will dig em up for ya. Hopefully this doesn’t make you disappointed in the books since the idea in the movie disappointed you.

And for anybody that complained about the transformation of the werewolf in the movie trailer, that’s pretty much exactly how it is described in the book. In a blink of an eye a loud ripping sound, the human form exploding, and a larger than human wolf jumping out of the explosion. That is paraphrased obviously, but pretty much exactly what happens in the trailer.

    • HAZMAT says:

      !!!!

      It kinda is disappointing

The transformation was perfect, but as i was reading the book…when they said werewolf i instantly thought of Van Helsing

      Oh snap.

The books are still good though.

I do hope they have action though, cuz the 2nd one at the very end with the vulturi….how the hell did that not end up in a huge fight?
      Same for the 4th one…twice

    • Jeremy K. says:

Ya, the Volturi are probably my favorite characters in the books. Would love to read a book or a see a movie dedicated strictly to them, but sadly that does not seem like something Meyers would write. To dark for her style I think. It’s one thing to create them, a whole other game to focus on them.

    • HAZMAT says:

Thats bullshit though, in my opinion

She focused and emphasized on them SO MUCH, the second book was a HUGE build up for a fight at the end and..what happened?

Same with #4…the whole book was a HUGE build up for a wolf/wolf fight between Sam and Jacob’s pack, and we all know what happened, same with the ending with that gathering of vampires, see? THAT pissed me the FUCK off

My favorite character of the whole book was Felix the Vulturi (who is being played by Colossus from X-Men by the way) and they make him seem like such a badass guy, and he IS, but….totally wasted.

I want them movies to add fight scenes in these scenes that didnt have them, because the movie will SUCK if its like in the book…

  4. liseliask says:

I do not like any of the hideous vampire teeth

    • HAZMAT says:

In twilight they dont have fangs.

    • Rocket says:

So in summation: The “Vampires” in Twilight, Don’t go into the sunlight because they sparkle…and they don’t have fangs.

I can see why you’re a fan. Shits so cash.

    • Rodney says:

That is precisely why I am a fan of this series. They took the tired vampire sterotypes and threw them out the window.

      It made it interesting.

    • HAZMAT says:

      Rocket
youre right, vampires DO need fangs in order to suck blood
And they cant go into the sunlight or else they burn

My neighbors a vampire, he knows. Its scientifically impossible for vamps to go out in the daytime, there was a National Geographic special about people who are born vampires and it basically went over how they really do have fangs. My little cousin is also a vampire so she can vouch for that

      Stupid Stephanie Meyer…..
Everyone KNOWS vampires have fangs. Just go outside and ask one if they do

  5. Meli says:

There isn’t that much action in New Moon a little more than Twilight, so I am not surprised if they spiced it up a little bit.

  6. Dragonslayer says:

Yea, great…still not seeing this movie

    • Rodney says:

Then save all your effort for discussions that DO appeal to you instead of going out of your way to illustrate your discontent.

People who don’t like a particular movie just refrain reading articles about it or commenting. Why make such an effort to upset yourself.

    • Dragonslayer says:

Here’s the thing…didn’t hate Twilight. Didn’t love it either. Besides, I can express my opinion on this matter if I want to, no matter whether I’ve said before that I don’t care for the Twilight series.

To be truthful, I’m GLAD that they are putting more action in the film. I’m just not gonna see the film because it just doesn’t do it for me. Just my opinion.

  7. I hope they do step up the action. I wasn’t really feeling the teaser they released. Alot of the fans were not happy with the way the wolf transformation *people tend to forget these are not supposed to be ware wolf’s thy are shape shifters so they are not supposed to look like some underworld ware wolf walking on two legs kinda thing.* looked in the trailer but I just hope they stick to the story and don’t change too much of the story just to add more scenes with Edward Cullen which is what the girls love. I read the whole series and I didn’t like the last books. I think the story just too crazy at the end and I lost interest but I will still watch the films to compare it to the books for the hell of it.

  8. Hdc47 says:

What will there be about 2 action scenes about 2 mins apart? Those movies are stupid anyway, yeah it’ll probably win best movie at next years MTV NEW MOON AWARDS.

  9. Shinobi says:

I did not read any of the books but the action in the movie sucked. From the awful looking tree climbing sequence to the last “fight” at the end.
The only thing that remotely interested me in the movie was the concept of the Vampire family, I think that was cool and I wanted to learn more about the father.

I understand completely that this is NOT an action movie but another interpretation of Romeo and Juliette.

I have one question for those who’ve read the books: Was the fight scene in the school at the end more violent in any way in the book. I’m hearing people taking about arms getting ripped off in the second book so I’m wondering if they are censoring the action on screen.

Also, about the transformation in the new trailer, it doesn’t matter if it’s how the book describes it if in the end the CG sucks like it does in the trailer.

  10. KayTayy says:

OMG! i CAN’T WAiT UNTiL THiS MOViE COMES OUT! iT’S GOiNG TO BE GREAT! ALTHOUGH;; i DiDN’T REALLY LiKE THE BOOK;; i AM LOOKiNG FORWARD TO THE MOViE. i AM REALLY ANXiOUS FOR THE iTALY PART AND JAKE WiTH NO SHiRT ON!
