Producer Says Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Is Top Priority At Disney

Posted by on 11. 06. 2009in News Chat

Look I’m not going to pull any punches or beat around the bush here. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was just a garbage movie and left me completely sick and tired of the franchise… which is a shame because I absolutely LOVED the first film. I didn’t want to see any more Pirates movies after the last fiasco.

But now for whatever reason, a couple of years removed from Pirates 3, I find myself softening a LITTLE bit on the idea of Pirates 4. The characters are just so great (well… Jack and Barbossa are anyway) and the setting is so grand… there is just so much potential there if they dump Knightly and Bloom and get back to some of the simplicity of the first film.

Anyway, in a recent interview Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that Johnny Depp is coming back as Captain Jack and that Disney is moving Pirates 4 to the front of their priority list. The Film Stage gives us this:

Pirates 4 is the priority right now for Disney. “A beloved character and Johnny’s (Johnny Depp) really excited about coming back to Captain Jack. He certainly is interested in Tonto, but Disney’s priority is to get ‘Pirates’ made first. You never know what’s going to happen, but they would like it.” Bruckheimer also mentioned that the original writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot would be returning as well.

Whatever your thoughts on the Pirates franchise are, you can’t fault Disney for wanting to go back to the well again. After all… Pirates is basically a money printing machine for the Mouse House. Hell… I’d make 12 more if I were them.

So what about you guys? Are you up for Pirates 4 or are you Captain Jacked out?

John I have to say I’m Jacked Out. We don’t need another Pirates, sure this one could pull 118 M opening weekend and no doubt it’ll get a LOT of money, but it’s getting really old

  2. Kristina says:

Count me as Jacked Out. I’ve had enough of this shit, and I refuse to give this overblown, shitty franchise another penny of my money. They disappointed me so much with Pirates 2, to the point that I felt like a fucking idiot for getting so excited to see the thing. I’m not getting sucked into that shitstorm again.

  3. Wilco says:

This one is going to kill Depp, If he goes into Sparrow character one more time, I don’t think he’ll come out.

  4. melbye says:

I enjoyed the last two more than most and would not be against a sequel at all, bet let there be some pirating this time, that’s something they haven’t really done yet

  5. Wilco says:

I wonder if they’ll battle Somalians in this one

  6. Jeremy K. says:

I, I guess not like others, always look forward to seeing Depp as Sparrow, so I look forward to this. I also was a much bigger fan of the second two Pirate movies than most, and thought three was quite ingenious. As stated before, I may just be a glutton for punishment is such enjoyments.

(P.S. On a totally other subject, I have been seeing articles popping up all over the place today about Megan Fox’s thumbs. I have heard this complaint before by people, but never seen it til today. Don’t know why its all over the news today, but I full expect a good article on themovieblog in regard to her thumbs for amusements sake. If it has already be done, then ignore this. She is still eye candy despite the thumbs, though. I quote, “there’s a certain amount of ugly that every human comes packaged with and god decided to shove all of Megan Fox’s ugly into her thumb.”)

  7. iknewthiswouldhappen says:

it was aight, I can see another one.

  8. leeloo says:

i always want moar capt jack.

  9. tzaylor says:

Indeed Knightly and Bloom should be dumped but not because I didn’t enjoy them in the first movie. I thought they were great characters. But there isn’t any more story for them. No reason to be there.

That being said I don’t think the whole movie should be about Sparrow and pirates. He needs someone innocent to corrupt again.

I’d be on board for 4 only because I liked the first so much

  10. Vito says:

I believe the early rumors were that Bloom and Knightley wouldn’t be involved.

Actually, I think Bloom should be, but not Knightley. I know Bloom isn’t the best actor out there, but Will is an important character for the franchise, and now that he’s captain of the Dutchman, he could easily be a part of a 4th movie.

  11. SlashBeast says:

This is a franchise that literally drowned itself in it’s own success. Although I am always interested to see Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, I feel that this franchise has really gotten tired and run it’s course.

  12. Tarrence says:

After the second movie I told my wife that the third movie would be “At World’s End”. After watching the third movie I said it was left open for a fourth movie and the it would be subtitled “The Fountain of Youth”. I think the way it is setup would be perfect. No reason to bring back back the Turners and you go back to what made the first one good with Barbossa and Captain Jack facing off again. Print off another $300 million for Disney if they do that.

  13. matty says:

Give me captain Jack, barbossa, and davy jones. Every else can go and get fuc….

  14. Fred says:

You know, a prequel would be nice.

No room for Bloom’s and knightley’s characters and a lot of Jack-Barbossa conflict..

    • SlashBeast says:

Actually, I think a prequel is a fantastic idea for this franchise. Give everyone their favorite character, Captain Jack Sparrow, and you have a ton of interesting backstory to work from.

    • Vito says:

Yeah, there’s a lot of great material there. Of course Jack and Barbossa’s relationship along with Will Sr. And on top of that, there’s Jack’s past with Davy Jones and Beckett.

  15. Derek 8-Track says:

Not interested, but will probably end up seeing it.

  16. Israel says:

enough is enough…They better start thinking on new and fresh stories instead of using the same one over and over again…

  17. fullmetal_medji says:

I loved the first 2 pirates movie, but I didn’t totally hate the third as much as most did. I totally up for another adventure w/ Jack Sparrow & Barbossa of course. I wish they would get rid of the writers and hire new ones. At World’s End plot did not make sense at all. Plus these are also the guys who wrote the sub par National Treasure movies. That;s the only gripe with me.

  18. EZELL says:

This was the worst third edition to a film ever why Because 1 was so fucking good and I personally think Depp is the most overrated actor after the that but I think he was Born to play that role as Captain Jack Sparow but 2 was ah long and bad ending 3 made me want to leave I was high as a kite and was board thats saying something…

most people don’t agree with this but Spidy 3 was a relief I stayed awake through it and even though the EMO dance was super lame I still enjoyed some parts of it.

But Pirates 3 the only thing I liked was seeing Knightly with that sexy tan and in that outfit.

  19. Matt Keith says:

I’m game for another film…if only they get rid of Swan and Turner storyline.

  20. Kaneda979 says:

LOL, oh god, “top priority at Disney”. Only because it’s a frakin’ cash cow. If they can’t produce something as good as the first one was, then fuck it. It shouldn’t of been so hard to make part 2 and 3 good, but for those dumbass writers, it was.

I guess at least it wont have the other 2 less interesting characters this time, dragging it down. Now they can just focus on Jack. If they’re smart, they should run with it and it could turn out great, and take advantage of the amazing world that Jack lives in. But they probably wont and instead just just fill it with a bunch of useless, pointless crap, all over again…

  21. Ricci says:

Good, loved them all and can watch them repeatedly, and I also loved the third one, why it gets panned so much I’ll never understand.

  22. Thos says:

    Best. Trilogy. Ever.

  23. V.tine says:

I think Disney is making a great move in fincaically troubling times, making movies that are going to make money rather than making movies that are going to loose money. Cuz lets face facts most movies loose money. Jonny Depp is really Jack Sparrow and I think him coming back for a fourth time means he has confidence in Disney that they will make a half way decent movie. Dont get me wrong Pirates 3 was crap and most people I talk to daily say the same thing. Yes Zack Effron will fill the seats for the little tweens and teens who want to see him in this movie but Jonny Depp will bring in all the Milfs. Effron + Depp = 120 million opening weekend

  24. ken says:

I am definitely not jacked out. i think there is a whole lot more that the pirate movie can offer. If i remember correctly jack was last seen heading for the fountain of youth(so the chase starts again).although if they left out the petty love scenes with Knightly an bloom i think the storyline can allow more pirating adventure.

  25. War-Journalist says:

If it’s a Sparrow solo then I’m in. I’m tired of Knightly & there really is nothing left to do with Bloom’s character.

  26. The Other James Taylor says:

I personally thought the movies just got better as they went along. I also never understood how anyone couldn’t follow the plot of the third one so of course I would love them to keep making them as long as they want. And if they can manage to get Russell Brand even better.

    • SlashBeast says:

The way I see it, there is something very wrong with YOU if you could actually follow the plot in Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

  27. liseliask says:

    I think so handsome
    great one
    :))))

  28. BamKazaam says:

It should be Jack Sparrow:Origins lol.

  29. Lindsey says:

ok im defenitly up for another pirates movie i absoulutley love them! but i think its messed up that there planning on removing will and elizabeth, things wont be the same without them…. ireally think the public will be very very dissapointed if they dont appear in the fourth movie…..wonder if i can complain to disney about it…..

  30. amanda says:

Um pirates of the Caribbean is one of the best trilogies that I have evr seen. And in my opinion Pirates 3 was the best part of the trilogy… It goes from good to better to best…….. I would really love to see how they are going to top part three……… And as for you ppl who are fed up of d pirates franchise y’all dont have to watch it…….. but the amazing thing is y’all will still go to see it when it comes out in 2012 just to criticize……..As one of my best friends say put up or shut up………

  31. Bella says:

Get Keira and Orlando back too. Love u Johnny but nobody wants just him on screen for 3 hours. AND film it in Australia =)

  32. Babalou says:

They should buddy up Depp with Del Toro (make him into Ponce De Leon) and have them wander around Florida trying to evade Barbarossa.

    And maybe eat some shrooms.

And then invade the Las Vegas District Attorney’s Conference.

    Cut, print.

  33. JOSSIE says:
