I pretty much feel the same way. I’m sure I’ll be pleased with what they do with the story, but right now I feel as if it’s unnecessary.

I kind of like just one Pixar movie a year, just like Christmas.

More than one a year and they will start to lose their elite status.

other than the toy story movies, the incredibles is my favorite pixar movie & incredibles should get a sequel made before cars & monsters inc.

how many sequels is pixar pushin out, first we get toy story 3, then the alleged cars 2 and now monsters inc. 2

Well, yes, the “idea” of the film was original, but an idea is only small part of a movie. A great idea doesn’t necessarily warrent a great film to follow. I think comedy wasn’t put on the back burner as much as you do, there was quite a lot of it, and it was, often times, very much front and center (to me at least). Don’t get me wrong Up did some great things and very original things SPOILER (a miscarrage in an animated kid’s film?!? Holy shit!). I’m just saying, to me, it was far from a perfect film, or even a great one, mostly because a lot of it felt like I’d sorta been there and sorta done that. Not just the comedy, but many other scenes as well.

The animation was great, when the house first took off and the colored shadow of the balloons were cast onto the city, that was pretty magical. I much enjoyed that Finding Nemo featurette as well.

I have always been against them doing sequels (mostly because that seems to be the biggest problem with DreamWorks Animation which I hate) but I can still see it for Toy Story, I can see it for Cars, I can see it for Bugs Life, I can see it for (and is actually my acceptation to the no sequel rule) The Incredibles. The ones I can’t see it for is Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. These two are just so well written and balanced out that they are almost perfect stories and have perfect endings that to add to it would seem actually seem to take away from it.

Only Pixar movie I really care to see a sequel of is The Incredibles. I mean sure, I loved Monsters Inc, but it doesn’t need a sequel, nor did it end like there was even going to be one, like The Incredibles did. I’m not even that excited about another Toy Story coming out next year. But I suppose I will see it, being that it is Pixar and all. Just like I’ll end up seeing a Monsters Inc. 2, if they do make one, damn you Pixar, for making good movies no matter what! ;p

Although I guess if they are going in order, a Monsters Inc. 2 would be next in line before Incredibles 2. I just hope this doesn’t become a running thing for Pixar, focusing on sequels of there already successful properties and no longer coming up with original ideas.

For some reason Dreamworks thinks we need 4 Shrek movies and a Shrek Broadway musical, but why, no one really knows…

On Up!’s behalf, I think comedy was kind of on the back burner on this one. Sure it had its comedy, but as you said it was mostly rehashed comedy. Though, the old man having a house strapped to his back practically the entire movie was quite original. Everything else, on the other hand, just left me awe. A lot of great messages in the story telling ranging from childhood dreams to youth/elderly relationships. Beyond story, the artistry in the animation was amazing as well. I remember the special feature on Finding Nemo dealing strictly with creating realistic underwater scenes. I can only imagine the special feature that will be included on the Up! dvd dealing with the balloons.
