Dan Milano to Write Short Circuit Remake

News of the Short Circuit remake has been around for a bit now, but we get wind today that Robot Chicken scribe and voice artist will be in charge of writing the story. Dan Milano.

Live For Films says:

Dimension Films has picked Dan Milano to write the remake of the 1986 film Short Circuit.

In the original, an armed robot became “human” after being struck by lightning. It then enlisted the help of human beings when the military tried to “disassemble” it.

I never noticed before just how much of a resemblance there was between Johnny 5 and Wall-E. Maybe they are related? It is said that Johnny 5 himself will be the same robot, but I was kinda hoping for an updated version, just for fun.

The original film was great in a number of ways, but the style of humour and pop culture references are dated. Having a comedic writer on board that has a firm grasp of current pop culture, as well as a solid laugh record should benefit the remake. I just hope we get a modern artist to cover El DeBarge’s 80s hit “Who’s Johnny” that served as the closing credits theme.

Here is the official video for the song which in true 80s fashion has NOTHING to do with the lyrics.

And yes, without going through the list I do feel that this qualifies as a film that could benefit from a remake.

    Wall-E?

      He looks like Wall-E.

Same extended eyes, tracks for feet. If Johnny had a box in the middle of his body he would be almost exact.

I would have liked to see a sequel that catches up with Johnny-5 twenty years after he was plated with gold.

This is another movie I wish that they wouldn’t remake. I know I’m outnumbered on that view but this is just one of my favorite movies, has been since I first saw it. I guess if they are going to keep the look of Number 5 exactly the same then that is one good step so far. To me I just think the look of Number 5 is timeless and I think it still holds up very well to this day! One thing that I am really praying for is that this movie isn’t filled with all the nasty, crude humor and talk like so many “comedy’s” of today are.

Also just to throw out a minor correction, El DeBarge’s song wasn’t the closing theme song, it was actually “Come And Follow Me”
by Max Carl and Marcy Levy. “Who’s Johnny” was only featured in 2 scenes of the movie and only for a few seconds. First was when Stephanie brought Number 5 into her house and she turned on the radio. The second was when Number 5 stole the Nova truck and while flipping through the radio stations he came upon that song.

Just wanted to clear that up :D

Jesus Christ monkey balls is every fucking movie going to be remade? Someone really should take me idea of re-releasing movies instead of remaking them to heart or brain or spleen……?
