Arquettes in Talks to star in a New Scream Trilogy

I really liked Scream. Slasher flicks tended to fall into stereotypes and rather than trying to come up with something tired, Scream took those stereotypes and rode them out. It was beautiful.

Two sequels later the nail was driven, and Scream 3 just made no sense at all.

So rumour has it that they planned on rebooting the series, but now the Arquettes are in talks to be in the next film suggesting that this will be a sequel, likely with a whole new cast with these two as the only tie to the original trilogy.

Coming Soon says:

Entertainment Weekly has learned that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are in talks to star in a new “Scream” trilogy.

The magazine says that writer/director Kevin Williamson has been working on more films that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies. It is expected to start production this fall.

Aside from the Arquettes there are very few people left from previous films. Kind of the way it works in a Slasher series.

I liked Neve Campbell’s character, because well… shes tasty. And I was kind of hoping all this mental torture she endured would suddenly make HER the killer. All that would drive a person crazy. Perhaps to the point of becoming what they fear just to get a sense of control again.

Would you be interested in a fresh continued chapter of the Scream movies?

  1. As to reply to Kristina, I think the best way to make Scream live up to its reputation to todays standards against Saw or Hostel. Gohstface would have to be extremly inteligent yet as much phycotic and just end up getting mad. That means more gorish scenes, between devils rejects and hostel. Lets see some limbs apart from bodies

  2. I gotta admit that I am the scream fan, I feel I kinda over did it for dressing up in the exact replica costume at every halloween. I even have the buck knife and cell phone they used in the original scream. My friends find me abit weird the fact that my 8 feet tall stand holds my mask along with Freddy and Jasons mask :) I am curious on hearing more details about scream 4. I know for a fact that horrors end in 3’s but just the thought of a fourth scream is awsome, I would be extremely honoured to be in the cast. I still be happy to be a character in the backround :D It would be sad if the beautiful Miss Campbell would be left out. Have a good one fellow fans! keep the 90’s horror live

  3. The first one was epic. But as with most horror films, you loves the magic with the sequel.

I did think a cool twist would have been to have two different killers (like the first), but that they were NOT working together. Two seperate copycats, and so one who is the killer is also prey.

    1. There was a Masters of Horror episode like that. About a Killer Hitchhiker and a Killer Truck Driver, that worked the same highway and had no idea the other existed until they both targeted the same person. It was probably one of my all-time fav Masters of Horror episodes.

  4. 1)Is Scream brutal enough for today’s horror standards? Compared to Saw and Hostel, Scream looks like an episode of Hannah Montana. I think the audience has moved on.

2)The whole thing that made Scream good was the fact that it was a parody of the horror genre, but parody movies are (thankfully) falling out of favor lately.

    3) I just don’t think there’s any milk in this cow anymore. Let it go. These movies get worse as they go on.

    1. actually Kristina i would have to disagree. Everything goes in cycles…

Saw is on their 6th movie now, and the numbers have gone down with each installment….Hostel made alot of money considering its budget, but the second one failed to do half as well at the box office….

i as a horror movie fan have grown tired of the horror-porn weve been forced to accept with all these PG-13 remakes of asian horror movies.(ie the grudge, the ring, etc)

with a sequel to the Halloween reboot coming and a new take on freddy kruger(not to mention last yrs friday the 13th reboot), it would seem that the concept that made Scream so successful could be built on and re-introduced to a new audience, as well as its hardcore fans like me and COMMENTER John here….

obviously you wont be seeing it, but i think if done right they could make something special. evan more special then the original.*crosses fingers*

  5. ive got to hold out some hope for this second trilogy.

Kevin williamson was on fire in the mid 90s with movies and TV….and hes had time to digest what went wrong with the 3rd one(which he didnt write) and bring back the true suspense of a good ‘WHO DONE IT’?

i own the trilogy, and ofcourse not many slasher flicks top scream ones originality, and surprise ending(i mean hoenstly, who thought there were TWO killers?)

so if Wes Craven, Williamson, and the Arquettes are on board, ill be there opening night….keep us posted Rodney.

oh and dont count out a cameo from Neve…I mean they could kill her off in the opening scene, i would love to get to hear ‘HELLO SYDNEY’ just one more time!

  6. The first scream was a worthwhile movie, and quite suprising on many levels. But I will never forgive that movie for what kinda slashflick culture it created afterwards. I am looking at you “I Know What You Did Last Summer” Grrrrrrrr……..

    1. What was also more frustrating was that fucking movie Valentine. Remember that one? Soooo awful. Everything was a slasher flick with hot girls in it, except when they did it in the 80’s; it had sleaze to it. This was geared to younger kids, so all the sleaze and fun was GONE.

  7. I liked Scream, and even Scream 2 – I was totally confused in 3… Can’t see this being anything else than just another sh*tty scary movie
