Zach Braff To Direct Again with “Swingle”

Posted by on 21. 05. 2009in News Chat

I’ve got a real soft spot for Zach Braff. I love Scrubs, I’ve enjoyed his movies (although they all seem to flop) and in person he’s a genuinely great and very personable guy. The problem has been (as I just mentioned) his movie career has been anything but stellar.

For example, his movie with Amanda Peet and Jason Bateman, “The Ex” had a wide release and only managed to make $3 million (yes you read that right).

But the one area of film where Braff showed a lot of promise was in directing… and despite all the critical and fan praise he got for his directoral debut with “Garden State” he’s never returned to the director’s chair… until now:

The good folks over at JoBlo give us this information on “Swingle

Now comes news that Braff is set to write, direct and star in the comedy SWINGLES, about a bachelor who is dropped by his wingman and teams up with a quick-witted woman he can’t stand in order to meet singles. Cameron Diaz has signed on to play the quick-witted woman, and I’m going totally on a hunch here, but I feel as though they’ll end up together by movie’s end. Now that I basically ruined the film’s ending, there’s not really a point in seeing it, is there. Sorry Braffinacs.

I’ll have to go out on a limb and agree that we’re probably going to see Braff and Diaz hook up at the end (SHOCK).

Sounds a bit like a Wedding Crashers type of film. Meh… I’m interested.

Braff looks like he will never be a mainstream movie success but I personally think he could do quite well for himself doing smaller quirky comedies that he writes, directs and acts in.

They will never be the kind of movies that require massive budgets so he could realistically find a profitable niche.

sounds terrible. and generic. Although i really liked garden state, so maybe he can turn it into something good.

Actually, Scrubs is returning next season and the word is that Zach will appear in 6 or so episodes. :o)
    This movie sounds promising.

Sounds to me like “What Happens in Vegas” 2, with out Vegas and Ashton…Sounds like it is going to be a very dumb movie…

  6. spence says:

yeah i read that he will appear in 6 adn direct some, but still i am used to seeing him in every episode. :(

I thinks Scrubs will lose out without Zac, no question, and Garden State was brilliant, but the plot for this ‘new’ film sounds like I’ve seen it at least once before…

The Ex is a very funny, hugely underrated movie. I recommend checking it out.

Well, I was pretty interested, because I am a big fan of Zach Braff, I love Scrubs and really liked Garden State, but then I read the name Cameron Diaz. Although the plot does sound like something i’ve seen before, it’s Zach Braff, so I can easily give him the benefit of the doubt.

However Cameron Diaz has just gotten so stale and annoying to me. It’s just been quite some time since I’ve seen her in anything that I liked her even a little bit in. Infact, the last movie I think she was actually good in was Something About Marry, all those years ago. To me she just can’t act beyond bitchy or ditsy blond. They’re tones of much more talented women he could of picked over her.

Maybe Braff can get some good stuff out of her, but I think he’s got his work cut out for himself on this one…

What’s with the pic of him? Why does he looks so old?

Liked Garden State and like him in Scrubs but that show has really gotten old now and his movies haven’t done well of late. Hope this works out for him.

unfortunately I’ve read this script, and it’s worse than ordinary. It’s very unfunny, extremely cliche, and it generally tries too hard. I was beyond shocked when I heard Zach Braff wanted to direct this thing, especially since Cameron Diaz is attached (who is looking more and more haggard by the hour) and every scene with her character is annoying and was painful to imagine on screen.
Maybe Zach saw something in the premise, and wants to rewrite huge portions of it, making it a much better film… or he’s a decent sized sellout that just wants to make a buck in a recession. Neither of which I guess is terrible.
