Never did. However they tend to have the final authority over what is "right" for Catholics, and if they sign off on it, then the rest of the faith can too. They have shown their ability to make decisions based on the good of the people is questionable at best. People are exposed to these types of movies so that they can open their minds to new perspectives. That, my friends, is progress. The novel may be ficticious, but it seems to me by giving the film it's blessing means the Vatican <b>may</B> have something to hide.
