Men in Black 3 in the Works

Posted by on 02. 04. 2009in News Chat

Seems we are not done with getting sequels to series we thought were done, but at least this one is less than 20 years old. The money machine known as Men in Black is planning its return with a third chapter.

Cinematical shares:

there were no further announcements as far as cast and release date, however Sony probably wouldn’t launch another Men in Black film without at least Will Smith’s participation. Will Tommy Lee Jones reprise his role, too, or will Smith get himself a new partner in crime?

I always liked the clever casting of agents who are supposed to be unmemorable having generic names like Smith and Jones.

I enjoyed the series, though I do like the first movie more than the second. I really think it hinges on Will Smith’s involvement, and with the money trucks this movie lined up I don’t think it would be hard to convince him to come back for a third. I would hope that Tommy Lee Jones does return because the two had a chemistry that worked really well.

Its been a few years, so I don’t see a Will Smith recruiting a new guy to replace him storyline happening, but maybe if the star agents of MiB were called to a mission in outer space or something. That would be cool.

  3. SlashBeast says:

I loved the first one but I despised the second one. Hopefully a third one will be better.

This series has so much potential to grow. I love to see more of MIB headquarters or a mission to outer space or something. I’m all for a third movie.

  5. Vidsub says:

The first was awesome, the second was ok, I hope this one will be good.

  6. 3R!C says:

I heard that everyone was ready and willing to make 3rd film, it’s just that no one was doing anything about it.

  7. Hersch says:

Are you sure that’s actually happening? The Cinematical article is dated April 1.

    • Rodney says:

It has multiple sources all reporting the same thing. It still could not happen if they can’t get people to sign on, but they are attempting to make this happen.

      For real.

  8. robert4042 says:

Hopefully it’ll be better than the second one.

Barry Sonnenfeld, I wish he would go back to being a Cinematographer. He hasn’t made a movie as good as Get Shorty or Men In Black in a long time. His television work is really good though.

Can the movie. It’s going to suck. MIB 2 was terrible

    • Matt K says:

its going to suck? how do you know that w/o even knowing what this film is about?

    • Rodney says:

Another psychic with a crystal ball and a cynical presumptuous outlook on movies.

      Just what we needed.

So because the last movie wasn’t good, there is no hope ever that they could EVER make another movie that could be good?

You should really work for the studios. They could save a fortune with your sage advice.

    • Matt K says:

      rodney,

by his reasoning the studio shouldnt make another spiderman b/c the previous was awful

    • Matt K says:

Wait… wait… wait…. this story was posted after April Fools right? Just checkin’ before I get all happy about this announcement.

  13. War-Journalist says:

I’ve been anticipating a trilogy. I just hope that #1 Tommy & Will make it back
#2 They come up with an original storyline (no more “evil alien to end all evil aliens” crap)
#3 Give it a roll-on ending (they will always do what they do, but that’s the end of the series)
I hope this isn’t an Arpil Asshole joke. After that micorsoft virus joke I can’t take anymore.

  14. Jeremy says:

    Please no…

If it turns out to be half-decent they should name it MIB II and edit the history books in an effort to forget the last one ever happened.

  15. Kaneda979 says:

This is silly, we don’t need another Men in Black, do we?

But I guess if it does turn out better then the 2nd one and maybe even the first, then I suppose why not. Otherwise, forget about it.

Besides, I will be hugely surprised to see Will Smith does return. Hes moved on to much bigger and better things.

  16. bernardg says:

When it come to think of it… It’s a rarity for A+ list actors to play back to back in a sequel. At most they do it just one… Jim Carrey? only Ace Ventura… Will Smith? just MIB. Tom Hanks? Hardly ever. Brad Pitt? Never… Denzel Washington? Nay….. Only Tom Cruise that come out w/ three sequel (MI series, they’re his baby anyway).
I wonder why? What do you think of it?

  17. obi-wan kubrick says:

The first one was okay back in 1997 and the sequel was utter trash. No thanks. SMith and Jones careers are so white hot they don’t need to do this to tarnish themselves.

  18. appollo says:

Any episode of the animated version was 10 times better than any of the 2 movies. So if they borrow a script from that one, I am sold.
