Star Trek Plot Synopsis Online

Finally digging somewhere other than toy packaging, we get a plot synopsis of the upcoming Star Trek movie from the back of the Novelization written by Alan Dean Foster, a veteran of movie novelizations as well as his own works. The synopsis doesn’t give away more than the trailers would, so its a pretty safe read for those attempting to avoid spoilers.

/Film reads from the back of the novelization:

One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness, and obscurity.

The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution of the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.

Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

So this doesn’t give away much, but still lays out a tidbit as to who and why there is a big enemy like Nero. How exactly everything comes together is still up in the air and we will have to wait for the movie to come out to find out.

Or those eager to get the jump on things can read the book.

This sounds good. Can’t wait to see this one.

I’m intrigued. Despite loving most things ST, I have a soft spot for TOS and am willing to accept new actors if it means seeing more of the characters. Besides, I like both of the “recasts” anyway. Happily awaiting this… sounds like a keeper!

It does sound good, but at the same time kind of original so it will be interesting to see what they make of this

  4. Spock with Feelings says:

“way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt”

    So… Spock has feelings?

    • Rodney says:

Spock was always half human and ALWAYS struggled with the emotions he was raised to think were illogical.

Thats always been a part of the character.

  5. If I bought the book, I would not read it until I seen the film. While generally novels based on movies are published before those films come out, there is always the chance of “deleted scenes”, or more “in-depth scenes” that the author expands upon, and, more often than not, those authors rarely work with the shooting draft of the script.

There was a day where I collected these kinds of books. Some of them were fun; many of them saw only a small number of printings. Star Trek, however, is Star Trek. Star Trek books go on forever.

Frakkin’ Awesome. Love the ‘chair’ moment.

More than Watchmen, that’s for sure.
