Russell Brand talks Pirates 4 and Greeks

Russell Brand was recently running amok in the MTV studios and eventually someone brought up the rumour that he was to play Jack Sparrow’s brother in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.

“There’s been some talk of doing a ‘Pirates’ movie,” Russell told Billy Bush for AccessHollywood.com and “The Billy Bush Show.” “But, I’ve got eight other things to do [including] ‘Get Him To The Greek’ with Judd Apatow… So I don’t know if there’ll be time to be a pirate, I’ve got enough of that in me private life.”

In “Greek,” Brand would reprise his character Aldous Snow from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

I really like that he is doing his Snow character from Sarah Marshall. I really liked that character.

I also think he would fit the Pirates franchise perfectly, and I hope that if they do bring about another film that he is involved. Dare I say they could do pirates without Depp if they can get a likable character with as much personality, but we know that Disney will wait on Depp, and Johnny has already said he would do as many Pirates films as they wanted because he enjoyed the role so much.

He was funny in forgetting sarah marshall, but I’m worried it was a fluke. I saw his stand up special on comedy central the other night and it was awful.

  2. Grave says:

A pirates movie without Depp as Jack Sparrow? No way! Im sure a large part of the success of the films was due to that character. Thats like making a pirates movie without pirate ships. Sure they could do it, but they lose lots of money if they did.

    • methos says:

um…I don’t believe the plan was ever to drop Jack Sparrow from the next adventure. Simply to bring in new characters, like they did in Pirates 3 with Jack’s pop.

    • Grave says:

Yea but he was in it for like what 10 mins? When you think about it, we dont need to know about Jack’s family. We want only Jack Sparrow,…. Thats Captian Jack Sparrow.

    • Jake says:

Um, sure. But you know, there IS such a thing as too much of a good thing. A little variety would be refreshing and I’m sure plenty of people are curious about what Jack’s brother would be like.

    • Grave says:

Yea your right there is such a think as too much but who here has had enough of the Captain? I dont remeber anyone saying ” Oh you know what be great is if we can see more of Capt. Jack Sparrow’s family.”

    • John says:

Next film after that, we meet his sister Amy Winehouse….

    • Cisco says:

      HA @ John re:Amy Winehouse

  3. MattK says:

are they really gonna bring in Jack’s brother?

  4. Heath says:

thought he was funny in forgetting sarah marshall..

BUT–this guys special on comedy central was AWFUL, i had to turn it off 10 mins into it.

    • Rodney says:

Its pretty hypocritical to say his special was awful when all you really can attest for is that the first 10 minutes is awful.

Its fair to say you didn’t like how it began, but please dont admit to not watching it then saying its bad.

    • Heath says:

      damn.youre always right ROD.

  5. Jake says:

“Johnny has already said he would do as many Pirates films as they wanted because he enjoyed the role so much.”

Yeah, he’s pretty freaking awesome in that role.

  6. Collin says:

I think he would be good as a pirate. He already looks like one, and as he said in his quote, he pretty much is one. Him and Johnny Depp would be good together in it. I think he should do it. It doesn’t hurt expanding your acting profile, unless your samuel l jackson, and then no one will take you seriously anymore, or will see the movie because some other big name is in it.

    / DEPP =/ SEE.

    • John says:

I love that people are so used to franchises replacing a popular character with their cousin/brother/whatever, who looks quite a lot like them and has the exact same personality, that you’re all assuming that’s what they’re doing here. It says nothing whatever about dropping Depp, just that they’re introducing a brother (or more likely half-brother, as I can’t see that Keith Richards character having two sons by the same woman…)

    • Rodney says:

I don’t know why everyone is jumping all over this like I was saying they would REPLACE Depp with his brother?

I just made an off hand comment that the franchise would still be good even if they went without Depp provided they had an interesting character that was as engaging and full of personality as Depp was.

I never said the studio was thinking of moving ahead without him!

  8. bigsampson says:

this guys is not funny….cool in sarah marshall but his shtick is not funny.

  9. Tsunami says:

He was only funny in Sarah Marshall becuase the rest of the movie was so terrible and his stand up was NOT funny

    • Rodney says:

I found him to be the second least amusing part of the movie and it was still brilliant.

The only thing I didnt like was Hill’s character. Total waste of screen time. The movie would be no different with all his scenes cut out.

  10. obi-wan kubrick says:

I don’t like this guys face.

  11. LMXV says:

I saw the whole special on CC. It was terrible, but I’d rather watch him with his fashion style and accent than Dane Cook. I remember Dane screaming, making faces and doing a poor imitation of Alien and I was like, where’s the jokes?

  12. I’m only judging from the picture of him, but I could see this guy as Jack’s brother. I hope they make a fourth pirates movie. They’re just good fun!

  13. tom. says:

Don’t know what he’s like as an actor, but I can’t stand this guy as a comedian.

  14. 3R!C says:

Isn’t this the same guy who hosted the VMA’s on MTV last year?

  15. Very interesting. I can get behind that casting.
