Kevin Smith is branching out from his comfort zone and will be leaving New Jersey for a major studio comedy staring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as A Couple of Cops.
Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan have signed on to star in Warner Bros.’ detective comedy A Couple of Cops, marking director Kevin Smith’s first major studio project.According to Variety, Marc Platt is producing the project, formerly titled A Couple of Dicks. The scripting team of Robb and Marc Cullen penned the screenplay, centered on a pair of cops who track down a stolen baseball card, rescue a Mexican beauty and must deal with gangsters and laundered drug money.
Bruce Willis is a clear winner as a cop. How many times has this guy taken on a badge? Its a natural fit for him.
But Tracey Morgan? That guy NEVER strikes me as a role that places any sort of authority at all. I can’t see him as a cop, and while we are at it, I don’t much like his comedy either.
But this is going to be directed by Kevin Smith, and not for his own View Askew. So these guys won’t be a part of the Askewniverse so I don’t expect any of the Smith staple cameos to be in it, but I have a lot of faith in Kevin Smith’s ability.
Two out of three ain’t bad. I just hope that Morgan fits in, or this could be a big stinker.

I think Tracy Morgan is Hilarious on 30 Rock, but that’s about it. I’m glad Kevin Smith is expanding out of his comfort zone, but this could be good or bad. He’s a good writer, but as a director not so much. In addition, he didn’t write this screenplay. I’m still hoping this turns out good, because Bruce Willis is the man!
Track down a stolen baseball card? i love that idea
hmmm i love Kevin Smith movies. I thought Jersey Girl wasnt a bad film at all. I liked Zack and Miri, but loved Clerks 2. Smith has wanted to do a movie with Bruno for awhile now and here is his chance. As long as Smith sticks to the kind of movies he likes to do then Ill watch it.
About time…Sorry,love the site.
As fan of Kevin Smith’s writing, I’m really interested to see what he can do with someone elses material (Reaper doesn’t count to me).
Whatever smith need’s to do to get a flick out there,if that inclued’s casting Tracy “im on somthing” morgon,I’ll see it.
Even though I am a fan of Kevin Smith and his films, I am not sure how I feel about this new edition. I think that this film will be successful only if Bruce Willis pulls off a good remake of a cop…again. But I am waiting to hear more about this movie before I decide if I am going to sell out ten bucks to see it in theaters.
