They Want Johnny Depp to play Moe in Three Stooges Film

Johnny Depp is quite likely the most sought after actor for any new project. Instantly adding his name to your gig gets it recognition, and if you can’t get him – make it up. I think this is what is happening here.
IESB.net says:
The 45-year-old actor could soon be poking Sean Penn in the eye in the Farrelly brothers’ forthcoming comedy“They want Johnny to play Moe and Sean Penn will be Larry — they’re still looking to cast Curly,” an insider says.
The Farrelly brothers will work on the Stooges movie after filming Walter the Farting Dog with the Jonas Brothers this spring.
Granted, it could still happen. Depp likes to play a lot of different characters. Adding slapstick comedy to his repetoire is not out of the question considering they are placing him across from Sean Penn of all people.
They WANT him to play the role, so there is nothing here saying they are negotiating, or that Depp even knows about it. But Depp will sign on with whatever project he wants. Its not like he is short of offers.
But still no word on Curly or who they would even want for him, so its all just rumour. However now that I see that picture of the stooges I posted, I think Jason Statham would make a GREAT Curly.
Do we really think that anyone would even WANT a Three Stooges movie??

You don’t mess with a classic. The Stooges are THE STOOGES. This movie will suck golfballs through a straw.
My thoughts exactly.
russell crowe IS curly!!!!
lol.
sorry but i think this flick is an awful idea.
Very funny to imagine…and I grew up watching the stooges. We’ll see…
I can’t imagine what a modern day Stooge movie would look like, so this project’s got my curiosity piqued.
Can’t see Depp in this
Depp? WTF!
Colin Farrel is the perfect Curly.
I agree that there are certainly plenty of great look-a-likes and potential actors to fill the role of each stooge, but I would have no desire to watch it. Agreeing with Jeremy, they are who they are. Each original actor is what made the character unlike something like the Bond series.
This is likely to turn out pretty equally to recasting The Honeymooners, which I never watched because I had no desire to see a classic butchered (rated 14% on Rotton Tomatoes, for the record).
However, if this does happen, I hope they also cast Curley-Joe and Shemp and have them killed off at some point in the film.
Truly there is nothing new under the Sun.
This is further evidence of Hollywood’s mental retardation, lack of creativity, and hopes of squeezing cash from an already established fan base. Nothing but regurgitated crap dug up from classic films and TV series using actors that will never be remembered as well as the titans who played those characters in the first place.
Mental retardation?lack of creativity? is this the same hollywood that gave us TDK and Wall-e?
Everytime an adaptation or remake is mentioned at least one troll will come out with “there is no creativity in Hollywood”
There are literally thousands of movies made every year in Hollywood… and less than 1% of them are remakes.
So little creativity.
Calling the guy a troll is a little harsh. Add sequels (see S. Darko post) to the remakes and it has to be much higher than the 1% you claim. In any event, it feels like 50% to all of us that feel like a little bit of us is siphoned away by studio execs every time they use an old idea that happens to be one we cherish. JM’s got a point.
Yes, Hollywood is mostly a bunch of retards. There are hardly any movies that are original or tell a story in a creative way. It may be that 1% of the movies made are remakes, but they are being pushed on us with huge ad budgets and big name actors. And 99% of the other 99% SUCK or are rehashed stories.
Then they get together yearly to pat each other on the back for the great job they think they did on the 5 that they nominate for best picture even though one of them is clearly from a writer rehashing his own work!
I am glad they make movies like Wall-E, Watchmen, Iron Man, and the like. But all the other cookie cutter romantic comedies, regurgitations of Dukes of Hazzard, the A-Team, Predator, the Stooges, Land of the Lost, Race to Witch Mountain, Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Friday the 13th, Frankenstein, Dracula, etc… Seems to me the most creative time in movie history was in the past.
There are thousands of books out there with millions of different characters that can be worked into decent movies. Stop being pussies and try new stuff. I hate going to the theater and having the previews look like TV commercials from the 70s & 80s
So if they make a movie based on a movie they are unoriginal.
But they can make a movie based on someone else’s book (and likely butcher the works) and that is acceptable?
I get it. You don’t like how the multibillion dollar industry manages to produce an endless supply of entertainment that never fails to put asses in theaters around the world.
Amazing how the armchair quarterback always knows the better plays.
Maybe by your standards it’s an “endless supply of entertainment” but my some it’s an endless supply of crap which does not merit the non-refundable price.
They butcher their “original” material anyways. How many posts do you see on IMDB pointing out all the flaws about just the continuity of a film? For the last Indiana Jones debacle you could print pages. And that was written for the screen.
I am all for them going elsewhere for ideas. Video games, comic books, books, or whatever. What I feel is very lazy on there part is showing us something that we have already seen.
This is not hindsight. This is foresight. Get your idioms correct.
JM “it’s an endless supply of crap which does not merit the non-refundable price.
Then don’t pay.
You can bark about how you hate it all you want, but you come to a site that deals with the industry you are determined to hate and cry about it?
Find a new hobby if it offends you so deeply.
you complain about them making shitty movies, but then you say they should look into video games for material which they are doing and everytime they make one of those “video game” movies they suck ass.
This is not a movie I feel should be made. I remember watching the stooges as a child. Those memories are somthing I hold onto. I just dont think anyone can do justice to the stooges in a movie. sure its just slapstick but its the ORIGIONAL slapstick.
I had a sudden feeling of millions of people crying out in fear then suddenly silenced.
they should just take a bunch of old stooges’ shorts cut them up and put them together & make a movie with the original shorts, kind of like what they used to do with the looney tunes shorts
Ah, hell. Well, they are making a Welcome Back Kotter movie with Ice Cube. LOL!
When I think about it, this can’t be all bad, really. In spite of their usual fart jokes and sex gags, the Farrelly Bros. always put a lot of heart into their movies. Even “Dumb and Dumber” was pretty smart compared to other dumb comedies.
This movie is probably in very good hands compared to what other filmmakers might do with it.
JEFF DANIELS for Curly
JEFF DANIELS for Curly
JEFF DANIELS for Curly
Hell No!!!!!!!
He will ruin it.
They did a television bio-pic of the Stooges a while ago. It wasn’t half bad actually. They use Micheal Chikilis (pre Shield fame) as Curly.
bill orielly should be larry.
just so i could see moe beat the bloody pulp out of him ALL MOVIE LONG.
i would pay to see that movie.
o my god that sucking fucks that fucking sucks it stinks and i dont like it.
wtf i think this is stupid as hell….the stooges where the stooges cause they took years to mold there painful comedy routing into what it was….but it was the orginal stooges who could only be the stooges…this is absurd.
As a patron and someone heading for my Bachelor’s in Film Studies, I would see it regardless. But I have no desire to see this made. Slapsatick is a dead art, and if they decide to bring it back, one of two things will happen. This will be christened a bad movie because slapstick is dead, or they will try new techniques and change the Stooges. And I don’t care what anyone says, the Stooges were the Stooges. They were their characters, never did anything else, and that is that. It’s like remaking A Fist Full of Dollars after Clint Eastwood dies (hopefully that won’t happen too soon).
I hope Johnny Depp is smart enough to stay far way from the Farrelly Brothers. All their movies are horrible. Dumb and Dumber and Something ABout Mary were okay but the rest of their movies are just downright mediocre.
Any TRUE Stooges fan knows that this film should not be made. I don’t agree that slap stick is dead. It’s just resting. The Farrelly brothers have enough clout to make anything they want. They can get great writers, actors…and so on. But just because you can make it doesn’t mean you should make it!! This film can only make them look bad. They could get Olivier, Bogart, and Fatty Arbuckle to play the three nincompoops…they are NOT the Stooges!!! Leave this one alone…Please!!
