Craig and Dench want MoneyPenny and Q to Return to Bond

There is a question in the air right now about whether there will be a Miss Moneypenny or Q in the next Bond film and if the actors have their way there will be!

Latino Review offers:

The 74-year-old actress – who play MI5 chief M in the movies – told the Daily Telegraph she would love John Cleese and Samantha Bond to reprise their roles and bring some humour back to Bond.

Dame Judi said: “That would be good if it was thought right to bring back those characters. Wouldn’t it be Samantha Bond as Miss Moneypenny and John Cleese as Q. Who else?”

Asked if she’ll be returning as M in the next 007 film she replied: “You bet. As M you get to treat this powerful man very, very badly.”

Daniel Craig, who has brought a hard edge to Bond’s playboy character, said recently: “We can do anything with the next film and, if we want to bring back Miss Moneypenny and Q then we can.”

The standby scenes in nearly every Bond movie have always been the mission briefing by M, and the silly “here’s the new toys” walkthrough by Q. I thought passing the torch to John Cleese worked really well, but I would sooner see a younger Moneypenny to play off the sexual tension and suggestion. Moneypenny is supposed to be smitten by Bond in the films and is not immune to his charms.

But this is a different Bond (an Early Bondy) and the tone of the films is a step darker than the previous Bond films. However, it might be nice to sneak in a tiny bit of those light moments we come to expect from Bond in a baby step transition from the dark gritty Bond to the womanizing playboy he eventually becomes.

Samantha Bond who said she was never going to stay on after Pierce left, and shes ten years older than Craig, so she has to be younger I agree. The little usual flirtation before his mission brief would be a welcome return. I wasnt a fan of Cleese’s Q though, Llewelyn worked so well because he played it straight, I cant seperate Cleese from Basil Fawlty and Monty Python. Q, whoever plays him, should be introduced as an armourer at first, and perhaps inventor of sensible gadgets.

I think it would be awesome to see Craig’s Bond playing off of John Cleese!

There is no doubt that they will need to tweak the two characters to fit the new direction of the franchise but I hope that Cleese and Bond return.

  3. Gutpunch says:

They would have to turn down the comedy factor for the Q character for these films. It just wouldn’t fit in.

I want to see steady camera-work return to Bond. I couldn’t follow anything that happened in QoS.

I enjoy John Cleese but he is to campy for the role. If Q were to return he would have to be more of an equal to Bond combined with an annoying IT person. Money Penny would be a welcome addition but she is only needed for a small part.

The best idea would be to make a female Q that is both Money PEnny and Q combined. This way Bond has to deal with another tech savy woman.

  6. Party Marty says:

Bill Nighy, Hugh Laurie or Gary Oldman, but to be honest, prefer an unknown to stunt casting

  7. David Tennant for Q, anyone?

    Rosamund Pike* for Miss Moneypenny?

Those are my top two picks. I put an “*” next to Pike, because she was in a previous Bond film (Die Another Day) but as MI6 (double) agent Amanda Frost. Before I hear moans and groans, hear me out. It actually keeps a loose tradition alive: having previous actors who appeared in past Bond films come back as new characters. Maud Adams in Man With The Golden Gun and Octopussy, Joe Don Baker in The Living Daylights and GoldenEye.

As for Q, I would like to see the character back, but not as an elaborate gadgets man. More like a on the spot weapons and tech gear supplier for various MI6 agents.

Didn’t Q die? Or at least the actor who played him? Then when Cleese joined, his name was R?

  9. Jack says:

    YES. DO WANT.
who should play moneypenny guys? any ideas?

  10. Party Marty says:

Yeah Desmond Llewelyn died 10 years ago. Cleese’s character was promoted to Q, and refered to as such in Die Another Day, and it was very poor.

  11. EZELL says:

I love Judy Dench she is a bad ass bitch I want to meet her and Eastwood before they leave us.

  12. Kristina says:

Emily Blunt sprung into my head as Moneypenny for some reason.

  13. They need to stick with the harsh style..trying to go back would not be a good thing, that would be like the new batman franchise going back to the horrid Joel Schumacher model..

    • Party Marty says:

It neednt regress to OTT parody. Moneypenny and Q have been in previous more serious Bonds like From Rissia With Love and On Her Majesties Secret service. Nothing inherently silly about the characters as long as they stay away from VR headsets and invisible cars.

  14. Rob says:

I love the Bond films and have seen them all countless times. However, when I grew up a little I got a little peeved at how each one had the exact same scenes. It was like anyone who has seen a Bond film could write one (or at least about 30%) I thought the last two were so good because they didn’t follow the same old tired and true blueprint.

  15. Fzzt says:

    Jeremy Clarkson as Q!
