The New Yorker’s Eustace Tilley Cover Contest

Posted by on 08. 01. 2009in News Chat

I have never been much of a New Yorker reader, but this contest caught my eye. Especially considering the entry that I found online above with a very clear Watchmen theme to it. The original 1925 cover (inset above) featured an illustration that has been the hallmark of every anniversary issue since.

The New Yorker.com presents:

Eustace Tilley appeared on our first cover, in 1925, and has returned for nearly every anniversary issue since. Create your own version of our iconic dandy by January 15, 2009, for a chance to win and be featured in a slide show curated by The New Yorker’s art editor, Françoise Mouly.

The above interpretation was created by pop artist Marcus Parcus

I love the obvious parallel to the iconic New Yorker character, while still embodying the mission and purpose of the Rorschach character. I find it inspiring.

Nice! Really nice! Although I don’t think Rorschach would approve :P
