The inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion. Their paranoia is realized when an astronaut arrives from Earth. Befriended by a young resident, he has to avoid capture in order to recover his spaceship and try to return home.
I really like the feel of this. It certainly offers a parallel to some other alien invasion stories but this time it shifts the focus on “the alien” because he is the human here.
The 50s style that the alien world takes on is rich with tributes to a simpler time and a slice of Americana, while still offering nods to sci-fi classics. Like the astronaut’s lofting “space walk” and notice the dog? That’s a pretty distinct skull pattern there!
The humour in this looks fun, and the premise is old but new again. I am looking forward to seeing what comes of this!
