Footloose Remake Fast Tracked

FootloosebigpicWe have news today that the Footloose film may be thrust upon us sooner than expected thanks to the success of HSM 3. We get the following scoop from IESB:

Variety is reporting that After watching Zac Efron and director Kenny Ortega deliver a $42 million opening weekend for “High School Musical 3,” Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked “Footloose,” hoping to get the film ready for Efron and Ortega to start production next spring.

I can only guess that the people making the Footloose remake assume that dancing is currently “hot” with the kids. They also may want to beat the Fame remake to the punch.

It’s only a matter of time before Dirty Dancing gets the remake treatment as well. Hopefully the film will be directed by Patrick Swayze himself. I would like to see his take on the classic film and really add the essence of Swayze to the magic of the movie. I would prefer if no Dirty Dancing remake was made; but if it happens, Swayze must be on board.

I am not sure how you guys feel about the fast tracked Footloose film, but if you were alone in your room wishing it to be soon….I’m glad I brought you the greatest of news.

  1. Zac Efron and everything from the disney channel should all rot in hell, they wanna ruin everything that’s good and pure in this cruel world. Nothing good ever comes out of the disney channel, Britney Spear for ex.

  2. Zac Efron can actualy be a good actor when he wants to be. People let their hatred of HSM affect their judgment of him. That, and the same reason people hated Leonardo DeCaprio when Titanic was out – All the chicks dig him, so everyone else hates him.

Efron was great in Hairspray, and can be even better with the right director.

  3. This may fit most of TMBs rules of a remake but there is one thing it doesnt do.

It cannot benefit from a retelling.

It its NEVER going to live up to the story told in the original, and can never capture the freedom and spirit of “just dancing” that was enjoyed in the 80s. They will bash this as a “guy who cant dance in a town that banned rap music” and some rebel will come to town and teach the hick how to “krunk it”

    Fucking lame.

  4. High School Musical, The Footloose remake, The Fame remake, Hannah Montana, American Idol = the gay-ification of today’s youth (not that I have a single thing against gay people; several of my friends are gay and when I told them this theory they agreed with me too). There are no more men’s men in American pop culture/entertainment youth anymore because of utter GARBAGE like this shit. This is why whenever Hollywood looks for an action hero and/or just a rugged, take no shit looking actor nowadays for a role THEY GO OVERSEAS AND CAST HIM. We are nothing but a nation but a nation of pussy-fied pretty boys now.

  5. NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!

Zac fucking Efron? Is nothing sacred anymore? Must we be forced to watch every single one of our treasured childhood memories stripped of their dignity and cannibalized and bastardized by and for the bubble gum snappers that is the youth of today? What’s next? Shia Labeouf as Ferris Bueller? /headdesk

Sorry I am feeling very cantankerous today.

  6. Better yet, I’ll only buy the soundtrack if Kenny Loggins is on it (and Shalamar too!) lol.

    *****

By the way, folks DO know that Footloose *wasn’t* a musical, right?
    No? Hmph.
