TMB’s The Dark Knight DVD Commentary Tonight

Hey there guys, just thought I’d give you the heads up. We’re finally getting around to doing our next DVD commentary, and we’ve selected a good one… THE DARK KNIGHT! We’re recording it a little bit later this evening and should be up and online tonight sometime.

Joining me for the commentary are the one and only Soul Video. Senior Editor of InContention.Com and Contributing columnist to Variety Magazine Kristopher Tapley and the Senior Editor over at IESB Mr. Robert Sanchez. It should be fun.

We’re going to put the commentary up as an MP3 file. The way it works is that you guys download it and then play it as you’re watching your own version of the movie (so if you don’t already own The Dark Knight, run out and grab it now.

See you tonight.

  1. Commentaries should be MANDATORY on a DVD of a film this big. The extras on The Dark Knight DVD are fucking PATHETIC, and it really pisses me off that the video transfer on the standard DVD looks like SHIT! It’s especially noticeable during the daytime aerial shots of Hong Kong. There’s all kinds of aliasing (video distortion) on the skyscraper buildings. The picture is not sharp or crisp, and the nighttime blacks and Batman’s suit blend to the point that I can barely see Batman at times, and this was not the case on the big screen.

  2. It would have been much awesome if Doug Nagy(thank Brad Greenspan and Live Universe for that, fucking bastards) were part of it, because it would remid me the good old days when Darren, Bruxy, Doug and John would do a podcast together.

Shit!I miss the movie blog before had gone hollywood;-(

  3. what do yal think about the switching around of different aspect ratios on the blu ray version? i personally cant stand it and find it quite distracting IMO.

  4. I’m not quite sure why, but it just dawned on me….let me know if anyone other than me sees a disturbing pattern.

    The Dark Knight DVD
    Batman Beginds DVD
    Superman Returns DVD
    V For Vendetta DVD

If you said, “no commentary” then you would be correct. And these are not the only recent films based on comics that didn’t get a DVD commentary of any kind. ‘Iron Man’ was rather bare on this too.

It doesn’t always have to be the directors. It could be the writer(s). Producers. It could be a few of the actors (unless they go fluffy, kiss each others asses and act like more of a saturated PR campaign). The film’s editor. FX guys.

It would be interesting what you folks say on Heath Ledger’s Joker coming out of the body bag..why bring back Scarecrow at all when it could have been any lesser known Bat-baddie cameo, such as Zasz in Batman Begins, should DC have “killed off Batman” in the comics/could that be part of the next storyline, should WB pay you for the commentary when they put out the inevitable re-issue.

All sorts of stuff. We shall find out.

Can you get Doug Nagy (or even Rodney) on the phone over Skype?

  5. Fantastic choice. I enjoyed the Raiders one a lot and I downloaded the Conan one ages ago, but only recently got the dvd. I may put that on now actually.
