I just watched this movie last night as it was just released to DVD. I must say I completely agree with the earlier review posted back in December on this film. This was a complete wasted effort on a remake from a classic campy 50's sci-fi film I loved as a kid. The script should have been scrapped immediately from the start as the plot and dialog were so detached and just plain suffering. Marketing is what got the limited amount of butts in seats for this one, but the director and actors surely didn't earn those $$Million paychecks. It appears the director wasn't quite sure where he wanted to take us in this farce of alien cat and mouse chases, over the top millitary scences and a kinda environmental "save the earth" statement. The script dialog was almost laughable and parent-child relationship scenes with Jennifer Connelly and Jaden Smith (please do not put this kid in another film unless his mom or dad are in it!)were completely unnecessary to the plot (this alone justifed a whole script rewrite). The CG effects where amateur at best. You'd think in a time of recession that Hollywood (20th Century Fox to be more specific) could produce much better quality filmmaking than this! Who is actually buying these crappy screenplays? I could've written and directed a much better film. Dissapointing! Hollywood needs a wakeup call like the nations banking system.

The movie's only competition were films opening in ny/la and other films getting limited release. Like Slumdog Millionaire and Forst/Nixon finially opened up in two theaters down where I live. Also, Gran Torino opened this weekend in ny/la. Did you see it yet John? I'm looking forward to reading a review from you on that. Friend of mine was in LA over the weekend and saw it, said it was fantastic.
