Sin City 2 Is Ready

I was a big fan of the original Sin City movie. Not because of the visual style or the unique and over the top way they did the action and violence… but more because of the way the film handled the themes of redemption and beauty. I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll repeat it here. If you really look at Sin City, all three of the central characters are lost, hopeless and have no faith left in themselves or the world they live in. But then each of them find just one little thing… just one thing that is beautiful (the life of a little girl, the affection of the prostitute etc etc etc) and it inspires them. I thought it was actually quite beautiful in that regard.
Anyway, ever since the first film came out there has been speculation about a Sin City 2. The rumors have been going fast and furious about the project but nothing has ever materialized. Well… according to Frank Miller, the film is ready to go. The folks at ComingSoon give us this:
“Sin City 2 is written,” he told the site. “It’s mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I’m hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April.”
To me this is good news and bad news. On the good side, I’ve always wanted to see a Sin City 2. On the bad side, I don’t have any faith in the “directing” ability of Frank Miller. Yes the credits say he “co-directed” the first Sin City, but we all know Robert Rodriguez was the real director… and Miller’s upcoming “The Spirit” looks just ass awful. I fear that Miller will want more say in Sin City 2… or even worse… Rodriguez doesn’t come back and Miller does it on his own.
I’m also getting a little bored of the visual style. It was beyond cool in Sin City. It was still really sweet in 300. But now The Spirit is using it too and I’m a bit bored of it.

About damn time! I have been vaiting for this movie for years now! The first one is in my top 10 movies of all time.
i am sorry guys but……….GAAHH!! another one????
I like the style, and I will probably never get “bored” of it. There are hundreds of movies made every year using more traditional styles, one of these a year for the occasional break from the norm is a welcomed addition. And for the most part sure these listed movies are similar in style, but at the same time so completely different. Sure I see similarities between the trailer for Spirit and Sin City, but at the same time they look like completely different movies. Sin City 2 will obviously be pretty much identical to Sin City I am sure, but that is just continuity. 300 was pretty different from all three of those. Anyway, that is just my 2 cents.
This is certainly good news to me. I have been anxiously waiting the sequel ever since the rumors started circulating shortly after the release of the original. My best friend is an avid fan of the graphic novels and after lightly browsing them myself, I can’t wait to see more of the story line adapted for the big screen.
In agreement with John, I definitely have my fingers crossed in hopes that Rodriguez will take the helm on this. I’d hate to see such a great movie have a flop for a sequel (though it wouldn’t be the first time for such a thing).
i agree john that style is getting a bit boring
I thought the first one a good plot line and good film but i think the second one might not coem through!”!
i liked the first one. it was fun.
not sold on miller directing it.
and if he simplifies the visuals as in ‘the spirit’, the film noir miller voiceover narration might be unbearable.
Never saw the original
Cant wait.
I think the Spirit looks like shite.
Sin City rules!
The Spirit looks like direct to dvd bullshit.
We all know that Frank Miller had little input on Sin City with even Tarantino actually getting to direct a scene. This is the guy that lives off The Dark Knight and Daredevil comic book runs and hopefully after The Spirit he goes away.
