Rock of Ages Musical set for Big Screen Adaptation

Posted by on 10. 12. 2008in News Chat

Rock of Ages is a stage musical that reviewers are saying pays tribute to the power rock anthems of the 80s set to a love story much like Mamma Mia! the Abba inspired musical.

And now, just like Momma Mia, Rock of Ages is being adapted to a feature film.

Coming Soon describes it:

The storyline takes place at a Sunset Strip rock club called Rock of Ages, where a man and woman fall in love but get torn apart by the rock lifestyle.

The show is propelled by signature ’80s rock anthems popularized by Journey, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and REO Speedwagon.

With this momentum of musicals on screen again, I am glad they are focusing on Broadway hits. I wasn’t a fan of Momma Mia, but I am not a big Abba fan either. However I am a big fan of 80s power anthems. So I would love to see this come to pass on the big screen.

This also gives me hope that its only a matter of time before they adapt Avenue Q!!

I saw this musical and it was amazing in every aspect. I’m a theatre goer and it was different from any show I every saw attitude wise. The show is truly bring a new demographic to Broadway. Since the person who wrote the book for the musical is set to write and produce the movie, hopefully it will transfer from the stage to the screen.
