Robin Williams Stand Up

Robin Williams will always be at the top of my list of favourite comedians. He is clever, and extremely funny. When he goes on a political topic in his standup you don’t even have to agree with him and its still funny. He knows the line, and crosses over it just enough to be funny and leaves many a sore belly in his wake.
So since Hollywood seems to have forgotten this talented actor, and his movies don’t automatically cash cheques like they used to, I still love seeing him in… well anything. But what he does better than most, is stand up comedy. So let me share with you this bit that was pointed out to me by Adam Lopez from the After Dark Film fest:
Before I die, I am going to make the point of seeing Robin Williams live on stage. I just hope he does enough of it so I can catch him live.

I forget the name of his classic concert film but it trums “raw” or anythin Pryor did for me. I whis he would do more acting as well. Comedy or Drama One Hour Photo and his turn on Law and Order: SVU were both spectacular.
Crazy ain’t always bad if you can focus it…
I have seen him live on stage. It’s a real treat. I loved seeing this guy do raunchy R-rated comedy when he usually does PG-13 or family films.
This was good, but do you think there was just too much American crap for the Brits? I just felt they wouldn’t respond to it as well as americans
In fact, I saw him preform this routine at my school.
I saw this on TV here and @Vito Robin Williams is funny anywhere and believe me the Presidential election was HUUUGE here – we need to check who our PM will be bitch to next.
That was to a UK audience? I didn’t get half his jokes. :-]
It wasn’t just for a UK audience it was for Prince Charles on his birthday.

i agree..but you know whos the only one out there better then robin williams?
frank calliendo doing an impersonation of robin williams…
lol
When Robin Williams enters the room, other comics leave asap.
Why? because he has a nasty habit of stealing other comics’ materials
your right, ithought the same thing when he was talking about american stuffs for brittain audience…
Robin Williams is the Bob Hope of our generation. A totally unfunny hack who throws as much shit against the wall and sees if some of it sticks. Robin Williiams hasn’t been funny in at least 25 years and hasn’t made a decent movie in at least that long. Everytime I see him come on a show I retch and pray for his death (or mine).
Well Nevada, you will find yourself in a minority there.
And also, considering you made the comparison, Bob Hope was considered funny right until his end as well.
Man, Robin Williams is an absolute legend. Thanks for the youtube post! I always love seeing his guy…he’s just incredible. Joke after joke.
And about American politics for the Britts…
I’m from Australia, and I have to tell you guys, American politics is a very big topic of conversation here…so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be in the UK.
Hey Rodney, save me a seat! lol
altho, gotta say, wen i 1st saw this post, i was a little worried he had… y’know.
Altho he may not b getting much work in Hollywood nowadays (i mean, come on, his last film was RV), Robin Williams is an entertainment icon that will never be forgotten.
The last film he was Lead in was Man of the Year, but he has been in other stuff since then but always in a supporting role.

Bob Hope was considered funny by whom? I never met anyone my age who thought he was funny. Canned jokes, punchlines you can see coming a mile away. Sure I give him respect for taking shows to the troops in Vietnam and other war zones. Shit they don’t care what they get as long as they get to see a little Ann Margaret or Raquel Welch with some skimpy outfit. But humor? Bob Hope was most definately NOT funny. Robin Williams at least had his moments until he became a caricature. Other than Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam name me a movie of his you could watch without getting violently ill. I’m sorry he might be an icon, a legend, he WAS innovative and somewhat funny 30 years ago. I actually have a soft spot in my heart for him after having run into him once on 7th St and 6th Ave in NYC and a bunch of us inviting him up to an apt. for a bit of a party and him accepting. He was the most normal “star” we had ever met (somewhat before Mork & Mindy exploded). That being said his last 10-20 years have not been kind.
Robin Williams is the only actor I’d ever believe as The Ventriloquist.
Yeah, I shoehorned a Batman casting rumor into this thread. What?
@ Nevada
“Other than Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam name me a movie of his you could watch without getting violently ill”
August Rush, Night at the Museum, Man of the Year, RV, Robots, Insomnia,Death to Smoochy, One Hour Photo, Bicentennial Man, Patch Adams, Deconstructing Harry, Hamlet, Jack, Jumanji, Nine Months, Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Hook, The Fisher King, Shakes the Clown, Awakenings, Dead Poets Society, The World According to Garp.
Just off the top of my head.
And Bob Hope was funny, but he was also a different era. Things that pass for funny 30 years ago, are not funny now. Watch old TV sitcoms and try and imagine how many of those would have made it in today’s market. Mork and Mindy wouldn’t.
Robin’s stand-up special (on HBO in the US) from 5-6 years ago was easily the funniest routine I have ever seen. I bought it on DVD after seeing it and I still watch it every few months and belly laugh. It’s an hour and a half of hilarious, high energy.
In the special features, you’ll learn that the first 15-20 minutes were performed for the first time onstage. It was a combination of ad libbing and jokes he outlined in the days before the show. That’s amazing that he pulled that off with the pressure of a filmed performance.
