Kristen Stewart Cast As Joan Jett In The Runaways

Joan Jett - Album
We have word today that Twilight’s vampire bait Kristen Stewart has scored a super sweet role as Joan Jett in an upcoming Runaways biopic. We get the scoop from the rock and roll caves of Yahoo

Fresh from the box-office success of “Twilight,” Kristen Stewart is set to portray Joan Jett in “The Runaways,” the rock ‘n’ roll biopic of the 1970s all-girl band.

The Runaways were hugely influential as the first commercially successful all-girl hard rock band; their members included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. The band was brought together in late 1975 by impresario Kim Fowley, who thought a novelty act of teenage girls performing in leather and lace would be an easy sell. But the girls proved to be serious and influential musicians with songs like “Cherry Bomb.” The band lasted about four years, falling apart over management and money issues.

The question on my mind is who will play Lita Ford? Joan Jett may be the most popular break off from the Runaways, but Lita Ford will always be my favorite (after Kiss Me Deadly rocked my ass.)

The Runaways are a legendary all girl rock and roll band and I am pumped to see this story told on the silver screen. Stewart looks like she will make a great Jett and I am looking forward to watching this project unfold. Check the jams for yourself below.

  1. funny, most of the songs quoted here were from Joan Jett’s solo career, post-Runaways.

i’m about the same age as the Runaways’ members. i seem to recall they were all 15 or 16 (except Ford, 17) when they released their first album. they were quite the novelty act at the time. i had their first two albums, which were basically glorified garage rock. a couple decent songs that stuck in your head, partnered with a lot of easily forgettable stuff. but hey, they were very young, they rocked out, and they were definitely easy on the eyes.

we almost got to see them once, but the show fell through. we had to settle for midwestern region copycat faves “Bitch” who hit our town every year or so. they were able to hold their own, and were equally easy on the eyes. or maybe it was the liquor talking.

there was also a biopic on HBO (?) a few years back on the Runaways. lots of typical behind the scenes girl band drama, interesting if you were a fan or familiar with them, not so much otherwise.

  2. To be quite honest I think that Kristen Stewart would make a better Cherie Currie. Look-wise, she favors her and she has the range to cover Cherie’s raw edge.

Do you want to touch me there? Where?

    *********

    I’m down for this.
It’s a shame it only covers The Runaways; would love to see that…was it 20/20 when they did a Blondie story and Joan was next to Deb Harry and Joan gave the camera the bird?

    hahahaaa

Hell, even if they bent a few facts, I’d laugh my ass off if they put something like that in the flick.

As for Kristen Stewart… I’m alright with that. But if they scrap it and have a Joan Jett w/ The Blackhearts pic instead? What’s Fairuza Balk up to these days? Besides runnin’ the Wiccan stores?

F’n great news! …And I am interested in knowing who’s going to be Lita as well… Who would you choose of the young Hollywood Starlets, Doug?
