First off… they are not “making it something that its not”… they are adapting. Making appropriate changes for the change in media.
Secondly… YES, they do need to satisfy the “needs” of people who think the cartoon is silly. Because like it or not, the show was silly. It was aimed at children. The movie is not. The movie is aimed at the teenagers who watched this when they were children.

Transformers was dear to me and a big part of my childhood, yet I STILL found the ability to be amused and entertained by the movie adaptation. They made some changes. They had to. The movie would have been ridiculous if it was EXACTLY like the cartoon.

I dont have to be a fan to appreciate what kind of movie this looks to be shaping up into. Frankly, I would give this half a chance. Of the 5 or 6 episodes of the cartoon I have witnessed, I could tell you I wouldnt want to see ANY of that.

You are the model drooling fanboy that the studios could care less about because they KNOW that you could never be happy. If they did a word for word translation, you would cry that it wasnt adapted.

I can explain this, like I have before…….. You are not a DB fan. You can not see it from my perspective because you have not seen ALL the episodes and know everything about DB inside out like I do. In short you do not appreciate DB as a DB fan would.

^^^ This sentence here tells me you know nothing about dragonball. There is more to the series than just collecting dragonballs. It’s just some joke cartoon to you. Fair enough. You just don’t really care about it as much as a fan would.

As for profit crap, I know that’s how the world works. Profit. But I already explained to you what perspective I’m lookin at it from but you act as if I’ve ignored the fact that these movies are produced for $$$. So what? Does that excuse it for being the piece of crap it is? IMO, NO.
DB may not be art to you but it is to others. You have your own definition of what ART and RAPE are but believe it or not, not everyone has the exact same meaning for words as you.

Well therein lies your problem. It is a simple reality in Hollywood that the motivation behind ANY film is profit. Sorry you overlooked this.

The “art of a film” is for independant film makers not trying to get into wide release or distribution. Making a movie about a popular cartoon and manga is hardly the groundwork for an art film.

You don’t know it will be bad. You assume. You can’t know it will be bad without seeing it and all we have so far is trailers. I saw the Trailer for Bolt and thought it looked crappy and I ended up loving it. Trailers are just PR, and perhaps that is failing for you, but that is not the whole movie.

I hope (as with any film) that it is good. The film may not be good, but if it is – then it will be so on its own merit and not because they changed something from that childish cartoon.

They made a movie that they thought would have broad appeal. To bring in MORE fans. People who like the movie will be more encouraged to seek out the material from where it came.

Lord of the Rings caused an increase in the sale of the novels. Spiderman caused an increase in the sales of the comic book. The Eragon movie increased the sales of the novels and made it possible for him to write more.

Doesn’t mean it will automatically be good, but expanding the franchise with an adaptation to film is for profit. The choices they make are in order to make profit. And appeal to people who were not already drawn to the franchise in hopes that it will bridge the distance and bring in more fans.”

I’m purely lookin at this from a DB fan perspective. The business side may be interesting to movies buffs like you but it doesn’t register with me.

Sorry if I offended you with innappropiatly using the word “rape” to describe how they butchered dragonball but I couldn’t think of a better word to describe what has happened to the movie adaptation of a franchise I love.

They didnt make Goku much different that people can say the character is wrong. So far the lack of a tail is all I see that is different. Otherwise the core spirit of the story remains.

Aliens come to earth, one of their own seeks out the Dragonballs to save the planet. Nothing that drastic that didnt HAVE to be changed really.
