Cheech And Chong Animated Movie

Cheech-Chong-Animated-5.jpgOne of the all time great comedy duos is Cheech and Chong. Even if you’ve never seen a moment of their routine, you’ve heard of them and probably know a lot about them. The duo split a long time ago and each achieved a modest amount of success individually… but never as much as they enjoyed together.

Recently the guys put the team back together to do live shows as a duo again, and the world rejoiced. Now it looks like the antics of the duo are being converted into animated form. The folks over at Yahoo give us this:

As the comedians’ reunion tour, Cheech & Chong Light Up America, fires out nationwide, the stoned duo are set to roll into theaters with their own cartoon feature.

“Cheech and Chong’s Smokin’ Animated Movie” will use the famous comedy bits that appeared on the duo’s comedy albums and films. Lou Adler, the music impresario who discovered Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong in the early 1970s and owns their classic library, has sold the animated rights to DVD producer Big Vision Entertainment and Chambers Bros. Entertainment.

“It’s great to be doing a movie where Cheech and I never have to get out of bed or be on camera,” Chong said.

Ok, I’m a bit confused and torn here. On the one hand it would be very cool to see more of Cheech and Chong in any medium. But on the other hand… who is this going to be marketed towards? Will it try to be a kid friendly Cheech and Chong like the animated Clerks was to a degree? Wouldn’t that just destroy the whole concept of who Cheech and Chong are? Is it going to be more adult focused? Where are they going with this?

I’m totally up for this, although the target audience is already well-baked past their prime. Even at the height of their popularity, “Up in Smoke” was only a moderate success. And the amount of people who gladly go to watch raunchy animated adult humor in movies usually average out to about $30M in box office.

Look – I love some good Cheech and Chong hour as much as the next nostalgia ridden college kid, but aren’t they played out?

In my view, their humor isn’t as timeless as we all wish it was.

Cheech and Chong are funny as hell, whoever talks shit about them are freakin’ kids, children, don’t know what they’re talkin’ about.

I honestly could never get sick of a good cheech&chong film, ive been watching since i was a kid and its still quite effin funny each time :P
Im guessing that its going to be dierected more towards the adult group as always just for the fact that their skits wouldnt really be caught on by the younger people. But you never know, cant wait to see how it turns out :)
