Watchmen Theatrical Trailer Online

Posted by on 14. 11. 2008in News Chat

Big news this weekend is that the full theatrical trailer for Watchmen will be seen ahead of the big new releases. But thanks to the power of the intarnets, we don’t have to run out to see a movie just to catch the trailer.

Sorry we didn’t have this up sooner.

This is truly made of awesome. You can find yourself rapidly flipping through the collected Watchmen book while scene after scene leaps mercilessly off the page at you. I got chills.

My concern with Watchmen is that people won’t “get it”. Watchmen has its share of excitement and action which they might focus on as the steppingstones of the story, but its a character driven drama at its core. There is a deep story told here that doesn’t have some fancypants spandex yelling “Hell naw!” and slapping around baddies with a smile.

I really can’t wait to see it.

Looks good but we’ll wait and see how the final product is.

  2. it’s got be very interested. but i’m not at a point where i’m “hell ya, i’m gonna watch it (in the theater).”. i don’t know anything about the watchmen, the only thing that irked me was one of the characters sounded like batman, his voice was all gruff… i might be able to overlook that if i understood the material better.

  3. Broly says:

Reading the comics has help me on what to expect from this film (kinda). It’s not one of the darkest comic books i ever read but it’s still very dark.

  4. SX0T says:

I read somewhere else and thought I’d point it out to others. They decided to censor out Dr. Manhattan’s dong. You can see he is wearing a speedo of sorts in the trailer and previously he wasn’t. So for all of you who were looking for juicy pics of CG superhero schlongs. You will have to look elsewhere.

  5. SX0T says:

I should also add that he does in fact wear clothes in the book in certain parts – so it isn’t entirely wrong for them to have this. But I think the censors may have gotten their way and deleted all of the dick and balls.

  6. shadess says:

I know nothing about the comic but this looks awesome.

    @ total jiu jitsu

Rorschach ‘s voice is supposed to be rough and gravely as it was conveyed in the comic. You should pick up the book, it’s good. Plus you’ll probably appreciate the movie more if you read the comic. There is boat loads of material and I’m curious what all they managed to fit into the feature film.

Trailer is awesome. I haven’t see anything yet to suggest a horrible movie. lol

  8. Ross F says:

The visuals are awesome, however, after reading the comic i think this whether this movie is successful or not is going to rest on how good the dialogue is executed. While visuals are nice, this type of story depends on the characters being believable.

  9. Bishop says:

I hope no one gets “hung” up on Jon’s bits but he is in various states of undress throughout the movie. There will indeed (from my understanding of what Snyder has stated) be full frontal male nudity. If that was what you were hoping for. The unit in question was obfuscated for trailer purposes only.

That being said. This trailer broke my heart. It was so beautiful (so much better than the ‘Pumpkins’ version that I don’t know if I can take watching it in full theatrical glory. Ahh fuck who am I kidding, of course I am watching it.

  10. While the visuals are stunning there no real emotional pull to the trailer!
    At least for me!

  11. Bailey2142 says:

I like how they put the music from “Koyaanisqatsi” in the first part of the trailer.

  12. kiddo says:

that looks freaking amazing, can’t wait to see it. I hope it’ll be a big hit

  13. Phil Gee says:

Oh God dammit it. I told myself I wouldn’t get excited about the film because I don’t know if it will even come out when its supposed to but…………

Fuck me, that was awesome. Get here quickly Watchmen film, Phil Gee needs you in his life.

  14. EZELL says:

You can see this film on the big screen when you see Quantum Of Solace which is sadly disappointing.

  15. aaron says:

    looks awesome!!!!!!!
    cannot wait for this!!!!!!!!

  16. Rob says:

I love that the Bale-Batman voice made it into the movie. Also, what is the damn deal with the slow-motion? Every damn shot is slow-motion. This lowers the impact of what is happening. Show it in real time. Slow-mo is so fake and so cheap looking – like a damn t.v. show.

  17. T-VO says:

What is there not to get? I read this again recently and to be honest with you, its good but not “The Shit” like so many people claim. The ending is a bit anti-climatic. A very good Graphic Novel but not a masterpiece.

  18. Dragonslayer says:

This looks so freaking awesome! My only complaint is the music in the trailer sucks.

I’m still surprise by the rating this movie got, because it looked like a movie that would get PG-13 (note: I’ve never read the comic, so please don’t bit my head off.

  19. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

    rodney

people WONT get it. this is going to be one of those movies that people will have to watch 2ce to get (unless they get the comic book) because the movie wont have everything that the book had…so itll miss some things..and it wont be as easy to comprehend. for example: read the book version of the constantine movie. it had SO MUCH more stuff in it and so many more scenes and it explained EVERYTHING and all the “why”s

and you couldnt have gotten this trailer sooner, yahoo released it yesterday at 5 and i saw it at stalepopcorn like at 9

  20. Dragonslayer says:

One of the dudes sound like he would be the son of Batman and Jason Statham (and no, I didn’t mean “or”)

  21. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

    dragon slayer

yes the soundtrack in this trailer sucks. the first trailer had the best one in “the begiing is the end” by the pumpkins….but this one sucks

this movie is rated R because of rorschach.

  22. Matt says:

I fininshed reading the graphic novel for the first time a little over a week ago. I’m sorry, but Watchmen is the most over-rated comic of all time. It was pretty good, I suppose, but not the world-shattering piece of literature I’ve always been told it is.

The movie does look prerty nice, though. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

  23. leeloo says:

    cant wait.

  24. Randrage says:

Re: the trailer music. I didn’t care for the first half, but the second half (which is the song “Take a Bow” from Muse) is awesome, imo.

  25. Kristina says:

I’m still concerned that they haven’t nailed the tone of the graphic novel. Copying an IMAGE is easy, but TONE is very tricky. Here’s hoping.

Either way, I’m just happy that I get to go see a movie with full frontal male nudity in IMAX.

  26. Mark says:

Wow, to me this trailer shows a huge improvement over the original one for the tone of the movie. I do agree, though, get rid of so much slow motion. That was distracting in “300.” I’m rooting for this to be good, but I’m afraid that it will be less appealing to those that haven’t read the books.

For those criticizing the books as overrated or boring: I’m not going to gush over them like a fanboy, but I think a big part of their praise comes from the fact that they pioneered a 180-degree change in the comic book genre. Instead of campy kids’ material, the story presented complex, involved material with a social conscience that was on par with other genres of fiction. That was new in 1986. Yes, Watchmen debuted in the same year as “The Dark Knight Returns,” which is similar in tone and more enjoyable for me personally, but “Watchmen” made literary critics take notice and view comics in a different way. From that perspective, right or wrong, it has been stamped as “important” in the world of comics.

Over the past twenty years many titles have taken on a similar tone, approach, and subject matter, and so it doesn’t feel as fresh reading it today perhaps. It may tend to be over-hyped now as its reputation outgrows its substance, but mainly because it influenced so many others.

  27. YES PLEASE.

I hope to hell they get EVERYTHING thats in the graphic novel, but then I suppose the film would be too long.

Most anticipated film of the year for me!

  28. anderton says:

Zack Snyder AND J.J. Abrams were together in Paris last thursday to show 30 mn extracts of Watchmen and Star Trek to the press. I was there and I must say it was awesome.
It’s hard to describe what Watchmen looks like but this trailer gives you an idea. The intro sequence + the intro credits (on Bob Dylan’s song The Times They are a-changing) were incredible. It was like 300 meets The Dark Knight. Although the Watchmen Universe is far more complex than Batman’s. I wonder if this film will find an audience as large as The Dark Knight. All I can say, it’s that it’s true to the comic book, not only visually. Besides that, Snyder confirmed that Watchmen would be rated R, that the film would last 2h30 but that there would be a 3h05 director’s cut.
Few words about Star Trek : J.J. spontaneously said that he’s never been a ST fan. he asked people to raise their arm if they were not ST fans. Most of the journalists in the theater raised their arm (ST has never been really popular in France) ; then Abrams said : “I made this movie for you !” Clever, huh ? From what I saw, ST is a big blockbuster which is closer to Star Wars universe than to ST. There’s a lot of action and humour. Can’t wait to discover those 2 movies!

  29. James McCullen says:

Alan Moore, the writer of the Watchmen graphic novel, wants nothing to do with this movie. He insisted that his name be left off the credits and that no reference be made to him.

That, I imagine, tells us how close to the tone of the graphic novel this movie is.

  30. Rodney says:

@James McCullen, you should read up on Alan Moore. He is a crazy hermit who purely hates Hollywood and doesnt even watch TV.

The quality of this movie has NOTHING to do with him taking his name off it. He wont take any credit for movies made on his works.

  31. Rorschach says:

I am cautiously excited for this movie. I just hope they don’t ruin the ending

  32. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

    nononono
im am 100% SURE that he saw v for vendetta and he WILL watch watchmen…all the crap he says is BULLSHIT

“oh im not watching those movies…believe meeee”
    HA!

  33. Rodney says:

Hazmat, he is a very strange hermit writer… he doesnt own a TV and thinks Hollywood is a joke so he doesn’t go to the movies. He doesn’t care what movies people make based on his works because he will hate it no matter how good it is.

  34. HAZMAT_loves_gwyn_paltrow says:

okay- you are right…100 % right. at the crazy part. he is INSANE..i mean juts look at the guy

but will a guy seriously not watch the movies based on the book he wrote? i know what his views are and ive heard the guy but…cmoon…

i mean…if he really did feel that way whys he on like 38 interviews on youtube? he still goes on interviews he still wants the attention…i just want to go to the movies and SEE him there and point at him and go like “HEY LOOK! is that f***ing alan moore!?!??”

im not saying youre wrong…im saying i cant believe this guys logic…even if hes crazy…no actually the crazy part explains it! hes obviously lying i mean hes crazy

this guy is like the antichrist of movieblogs if he really doesnt watch movies…

  35. James McCullen says:

If memory serves, Alan Moore has said that he doesn’t approve of the movie versions of his graphic novels because they don’t hold up to his vision for the works themselves.

Read the graphic novels of “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “V For Vendetta,” and you will notice that there are differences between the graphic novel and movie versions. Namely, the movies are more hollywood-ized.

If Moore is upset with the Watchmen movie, certain elements have been altered from the graphic novel to make it more hollywood-friendly. The continuity of the story is probabally shuffled differently than the graphic novel reads (similar to V For Vendetta).

Hopefully, the story remains just as strong with the presumably-altered elements.
