Thor Coming To Television

Thor339This isn’t movie related; but it is Thor related so I am throwing it up on the site. FTW. We get news this morning that the mighty Thor will be appearing on TV in the form on an animated series. We get the following scoop thanks to our friends at the movieweb:

The plot of the series will find Thor defending his home of Asgard “against fantastical villains, fiendish hordes, winged creatures and angry giants.” Moving through multiple worlds the show will feature such characters as Balder the Brave, the Warriors Three and Thor’s evil adopted brother, Loki.

Apparently, Marvel Animation is putting together “a 26 half-hour episode series based on its long-running comic book.” The idea is for the series to bow in the fall of 2010.

This cartoon series could prove to be a very useful advertisement for the Thor movie that launches in 2010. A good cartoon may be the best way to introduce youngsters to the thunder god (next to Simonson comics.) I have high hopes for this cartoon for personal reasons, I like the “funnies” and would be delighted if this series turned out to be as good as Batman: The Animated Series was.

26 shows is a decent run and I hope to see Beta Ray Bill thrown into the mix. If they retold the story of Stormbreaker (his hammer) on the cartoon – I would probably start to cry. In The Mighty Thor #339 Odin makes Bill his own hammer and most of the issue is spent with the All-Father making preparations for its construction. If you haven’t read this issue – do so.

International friends – what are your thoughts on a Thor cartoon?

Wow, Marvel is really gearing up their animated properties. Bring it on. In the mean time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUFeRt-_TpM&eurl=http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39099

Depends on the animation cartoons these days look like shit compare to 80′s cartoons but hopefully Thor will be different for financial reasons.

I honestly don’t think it’ll be as good as the batman animated series…I mean batman has been around for a long long time…it has a standard it must meet. Thor is just being introduced…

That being said, I do think it’ll draw in some new fans, which is a good thing!

  4. DG Music says:

by the way when I say it’s just being introduced, I mean the cartoon/live action movie

Broly beat me to the punch sir. Animation on TV has really gone down the pan in the last decade with so much of it trying to emulate Japanese anime. It has this horrible synthetic look to it and moves at a million miles a second without stopping to give us good dialogue or characters or anything approaching subtlety……….and the music is always attrocious.

I guess i’m not excited about this :)

  7. TimeWaster says:

Beta Ray Bill made an appearance on the Fox animated “Silver Surfer” cartoon. But no, they didn’t do the Stormbreaker storyline.

i hope they do the odin sleep story for the movie.
it would make a great trilogy- way better than lotr.
    its all kinds of epic.

  9. So long as they don’t go X-Men Evolution on me, it’s fine. Better yet, don’t get all Silver Surfer on me, where instead of rewriting Marvel lore to make X-Men heroes into snotty pre-teens we wind up with Thanos’ deep metaphysical babble gobble=de-gook. Personally, I’d like it up to par with some of the DTV/DVD features they been putting out- such as Doctor Strange.

We grew up on Thundarr; Thor would teach our kids the meaning of Saturday Morning wisdom.

its going to be a kick ass cartoon that all i have to say, but will the animation be kid friendly or will it be target for the young adult, meaning 16-17 year and up. i like the animation on Batman The Animated series. i hope it does not go in the direction of superman the kids WB version. In my opinion i think it sucked a good example would be on how they created doomsday. thor’s animation should be with great and fantastic details. i can’t wait for this cartoon. if they go in the direction of x-men (i mean the x-men from the 90s) im so going to be greatful. :)
