Sherlock Plot Revealed

IESB.net got wind of an intrepid fan who got his hands on a script for Robert Downey Jr’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes:

One of our loyal readers from the U.K has sent in the following story details from the Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

Hi Robert, Jack The Ripper here. Wanted to share some story details from Sherlock Holmes that is currently shooting in London. I’ve got some information about how the film will open before the credits roll.

The movie starts off in London (of course) and the year is 1891 with a night time chase overlayed with a narration by Mr. Watson.

Watson describes London as the capital of the world full of criminals and villainy. Funny, it reminds me of Mos Eisley. He also explains who he is.

If you want to hear the rest, it gets a tiny bit spoilery, so I wont go into detail.

The scene appears to be a pre-opening credits teaser with lots of action and some badguy who may or may not actually link to the plot of the movie.

Looks like they want to send a message that this is an action flick, which seems “beneath” the intellectual character we are used to seeing portrayed, but not too much of a stretch.

I’m looking forward to this. My dad’ll probably take me since RDJr. is his favorite actor

  2. Seth Rex says:

it makes plenty of sense. Just cause he’s a briliant detective doesn’t mean his villains are just going to sit down and say “brilliant, holmes….you cought me, i will go easily.” He’s destined to get into a bit of a fight with some of his foes, or in this case, chase them down.

I think I’m going to like this take on Sherlock Holmes. Too often the character comes off as stuffy and boring, but this new movie seems like it will change that image.

  4. I am so excited on this new take on a grand Old Character!

uuuuuuh that’s not a plot. That’s a scene in the movie. what the fuck?!!

  6. Rodney says:

@Bjon, if you bothered to read, the rest is on the site. Which reveals elements of the plot and the characters.

I didn’t post it all because its a spoiler.

    Exhale Webster.

I am very excited for this movie. In anticipation for it I hunted down an old copy of the complete works written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There is a suprising amount of action and chases in the novels and stories, although the focus is more commonly on the deductions which Holmes is so famous for. Many of the stories have no criminal element at all, actually. Holmes is also very often jumping into complex and intricate disguises to gather his information which would be really neat to see on screen if they decide to go that route (I’ve decided to avoid the possible spoilers in the script review).

Holmes is one of those charactors that has so had so many reincarnations that I think the original one has been lost. This gives Guy Ritchie and Robert Downie Jr a lot of room to play in without worrying about cannon and it shall be interesting to see the results of their interpretation.

  8. The Lawr says:

Wasn’t the young Sherlock Holmes film about devil worshipers?

  9. Slushie Man says:

Young Sherlock Holmes is one of the most underrated movies in history, and upon re-watching it recently, it actually REALLY seemed similar to Harry Potter. I mean, there was the Harry Potter character, the Ron and Hermione characters, the Snape character, a plot involving something bad happening at the school that they have to try to solve.

But it was really damn good that had some nods to many of Spielberg’s other films, and had a damn good sword fight at the end.

Now I need to find this movie on DVD…

RDjr. is landing some pretty good roles lately. I have always thought he was a good actor. But I didn’t think he would ever get the kinds of roles that he is getting now. I have a feeling it might because of his tendency to get in trouble and his problems with drugs. I just hope this latest role is as good as it looks like it could be.

  11. Kristina says:

I really hope he doesn’t relapse. Seriously. Dude’s a fucking treasure.

  12. David Lopan says:

I can’t wait to see this. A special edition of one of my other favorite RDjr movies recently came out; Chaplin. This guy can do no wrong.
