I havn’t read the Manga but Ive been told the movie was quite a loose translation of the source, so the hollywood film could ened up being a very different revenge movie, not really a remake of the film at all.

Well, I haven’t read the manga, so I won’t cry wolf, and by wolf, I of course mean bad movie, just yet. Still, I can’t help but feel vaugely pessimistic. Nothing personal against american cinema, but a lot of idea import from various places overseas doesn’t… handle the transport very well, on the plus side, I can’t recall to have seen any work take the jump between mediae and clearing the water-filled gaps, popularily called seas, in one single bound, so I can’t really say if it’ll work or not.

Still though, I’m fairly sceptical.

hmm…never read the manga…i might look it up and give it a gander….i heard oldboy was similar to the book, but the book was slightly more detailed than the movie….i think the same twist is there but idk….truly one of my personal favorites of all time….as long as the original doesnt change to the tone of the story, then we might have a decent film….

and i never will understand people on the internet insulting those who feel passionate about a film or show…some people just dont want to see something the enjoy be done again for no reason….everyone has an opinion

It makes more sense this way actually. I admit I did not know the Korean movie version of Oldboy was an adaptation of a Japanese manga.

Oldboy is not a sequel to Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. It’s just that both films have the same theme: revenge.
