Bruno Strikes At Proposition 8 Rally

Bruno has been spotted again! This time the character has been caught at a Proposition 8 rally in California. We get the following scoop from the justice caves of Yahoo:

Sacha Baron Cohen went undercover as his alter ego Bruno on Sunday by crashing a rally in support of a ballot measure that would ban gay marriage in California.

The British comedian is working on a film based on the fictional character Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion reporter who conducted gag interviews on HBO’s “Da Ali G Show.”
Cohen, in disguise in a blond wig and preppy outfit, marched with demonstrators who support Proposition 8 while being trailed by cameras in a rally across from City Hall.
When photographers and reporters realized who he was and tried to approach the star, members of his film crew tried to shield him, and he was eventually whisked away in a van.

It is awesome that Bruno was at the rally. With luck they were able to get great crowd shots with him in the foreground. It seems like they are taking their time with this film racking up as many quality scenes as they can before hitting the editing room.

Borat was essentially a clip show with a loose story that managed to hold it all together. I am guessing they will do likewise with Bruno. With luck, this approach will work again. So far we already know about some cool scenes, The Governor, Gay Love Wrestlers, Crashing a Fashion Show and now a Rally thrown into the mix. If this is what we know about, I can’t wait to see what Cohen has been able to keep under wraps.

FUCK BRUNO, okay? Fuck Cohen too, the stupid fuck

  2. Cohen can’t pull the same gags he did as Borat. The folks behind the Bruno film have to bring in and pay for the extras, get filming permissions, all that good stuff…just like everyone else. In addition, he can be ID’d now, so the illusion he attempts to create soon backfires.

Regardless of where one stands on the prop 8, supporters of the prop (or even those who don’t support it) should be able to assemble, support (or protest) march peacefully without having some guy attempting to disrupt it. Sadly, this stunt makes him look like a jerk. (I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the footage either, though.)

Better yet, should Cohen’s Bruno carry a sign that says Vote No on Prop 8? Or would that be considered to be a joke too?

I just don’t like him as an actor. The only role he was amazing in was his character in Sweeney Todd. But everything else, he’s just annoying.

Look at the picture you posted. Then look at the picture in the Yahoo scoop. Does Cohen look the same to you in both? The one at the rally is Cohen as Straight Dave, one of his new characters. Which makes sense, because he *supports* Proposition 8. Yahoo mistakenly reports something and you hurry to repost it without even bothering to look at the pictures.
