My personal top 10:
10: Michael C. Hall- He is totally cool, to go from "Six feet under" to the Broadway adaptation of"Chicago" to "Dexter" takes a considerable amount of versitality.
9: Gene Wilder- Only saw two of his movies, willy wonka and see no evil ; hear no evil, but I thought they were funny and Gene wilder was always funny in them. (I also saw Young Frankenstein and thought he was a little over the top in that movie).
8: Brad Pitt- More than a pretty face, he has shown that he can act in whatever role is asked of him; Curious case of Benjamin Button, Interview with a Vampire, Money ball,ect... Yes I said Interveiw with a vampire. His performance in it was much better than Tomcat's.
7: Edward Norton- To go from "American history X to "Death to Smoochy" to "The Incredible Hulk" takes some "incredible" skill.
6: Clint Eastwood- The toughest man on the silverscreen he not only gave us these badass tough guy movies, he also directed real top notch films.
5: Denzel Washington- He has fantastic range, he can play anything and everything. No matter what role he plays you always manage to like him, whether he is the good guy or the villan, when he smiles you're automaticaly rooting for him.
4: Matt Damon- Smart and funny, one of the best actors of our generation.
3: Robert Downy Jr.- With his dry wit and laid back style, he is able to fit in any role like a glove.
2: Johnny Depp- One of the most perfect actors, Depp can blend into the character so well that one forgets that it's Depp and believes they're watching someone's life being lived in front of them. This guy is simply the best.
1: Leonardo DiCaprio- Personally the best in my book because he was able to break the mold of pretty boy successfully and bring depth to his resume.(Inseption,j.edgar,shudder island). I think his choices in the films he does will only get better.

I don't know what it is about Alan Rickman, but I think he could read Green Eggs and Ham out loud to a camera, and make it packed with all kinds of potent emotions. He's also weirdly sexy. Just something about him makes every girl want him. Also I agree with adding Heath Ledger. I'm not saying he hasn't been in any bad movies, but that's script picking not acting. The movies that had solid plot lines and characters he knocked the house down.

I am always lobbying friends and co-workers to see "older" movies. Many of the actors you'll see in older films are still working today. Only some of the actors mentioned can hold the water for the following list:

Hopkins
DeNiro
Pacino
Caine
Redford
Eastwood
D. Hoffman
Kingsley
Nicholson
Duvall

you missed a lot of great actors in the list. I wouldn't agree at all. Where is Robert DeNero and Bruce Willis and DENZIL WASHINGTON in the list? Where is Al Pacino? Where is Morgan Freeman and Harrison Ford? They are not dead. They are working today. Also, my list would include a lot of other actors: Nick Cage, George Clooney,
