Terry Rossio Clears Up Pirates 4 Rumours

Pirate-3Terry Rossio the co-screenwriter for Pirates of the Caribbean has decided to set some of the regarding the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film straight. We get the scoop from the horse’s mouth thanks to the good people over at comingsoon:

Rossio writes: For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp. Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing. The only thing that has been officially announced so far is that Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth film.

I don’t know why this guy is hating on Cohen and Burton, they couldn’t make his shitty franchise any worse. He’s probably correct about the studio not wanting to mess with a winning formula however. I just hope they mix it up enough to warrant a fourth film. Making it 90 minutes long should be priority number 1 in my books.

A film about Pirates doesn’t need to me more than 90 minutes, no way, no how. At 90 minutes you could even throw in a sad song from a parrot.

Jack Sparrow is the best part of the films, and I’m glad he’s back. With luck the fourth outing will be free of love triangles and let him loose to flamboyant antics and treacherous piracy. I want the Jack Sparrow show.

  1. “Right from the horse’s mouth”? Why go to comingsoon? Something wrong with Wordplay?

As for Sasha B Cohen, he’s a bit overrated at times but…if there was a rumor of Cohen having an appearance in Pirates 4…I would have bought it..and I would be okay with it. I could kind of see it. He could even be the adversary/spoil of Sparrow and Barbarosa, I would buy it. Or even a new deckhand. Cohen as an eccentric drunk pirate? I say again, and I read Rossio/Elliot site from time to time, so with all due respect to them- I’ll say it again. I’ll take your word for it that Cohen being approached was a rumor. But if there was something to it, I wouldn’t burn a bridge down over it. I’m sold. So if it was an idea by a Dis exec, that individual-even if the suggestion went down in a heap of coals- needs a company bonus and/or pay raise. It is a brilliant idea even if it won’t happen.

As for Tim Burton…he and Depp work great together; they are working together again…but I don’t think Burton would go near the Pirates franchise if you dragged him there with a ball and chain.

  2. I’m all for another PIRATE movie… but not a shitty Disney one. Fuck “Pirates of the Caribbean”!

Give me an R rated pirate film done by an epic film maker! I want it to be a serious Pirate film. A film about how Piracy really was!

Picture it: Mel Gibson’s “The Seven Seas”
