Roberto Saviano Has Price Placed On His Head

Severed Horse Head PillowIt looks like the tell all Mafia story Gomorra (and film) has placed the author on a hit list. We get the news from the assassin caves of Yahoo:

Roberto Saviano, 29, has lived in hiding with 24-hour police protection for the past two years since the “Camorra,” as the mob in his hometown is known, decided to punish him for the huge success of his book, which is based on his own investigations.

It has sold 1.2 million copies in Italy and been translated into 42 languages. Now that it has hit the big screen and is a candidate for the Oscars, the mafia is even angrier and wants Saviano and his bodyguards killed as soon as possible.

If you are going to rat out the Mafia and turn your snitching into a full-time career with a book, and then a film deal…..It might be a good idea to get the fuck out of Italy. I would suggest Mr. Saviano gets his head out of his ass, moves to Thailand, changes his name and spends the rest of his days snorkeling in the ocean and drinking thai beer in the company of professional (and reasonably priced) prostitutes.

Sleeping where you shit is a bad idea. It’s no surprise to me that the Mob wants this dude dead for opening their business up to the world. I’m honestly surprised that he’s sticking around. You don’t see Salman Rushdie in Iran – there’s a reason for that. Follow his example and go.

After this news story I am however interested in seeing this film. If it called out a hit upon this man’s head, it must be filled with saucy details indeed! International friends – have any of you had the chance to see this picture?

  1. Saviano will never leave this country. He loves too much his city and Italy, to run away. He doesn’t want to escape, it’s like sayin’ “ok the mafia won the battle, if you fight against it then you have to run away”. No way.

  2. I hadn’t even heard of this film before this post, but would definitely be interested in checking it out. As you say, Doug, there’s got to be something very intriguing as to the success of this book/movie to warrant a hit… Someone somewhere got royally bamboozled!
