New V Series Returning To TV

By Doug - October 10, 2008 - 11:26 America/Montreal

VfinalbattleWe have more news for you guys today regarding the plans ABC has to reinstate their V franchise. The chatter now is that the series will be re-imagined. We get the following scoop from our friends at comnigsoon:

ABC is developing a new adaptation of “V,” the 1980s miniseries about alien lizards visiting Earth, reports Variety. “V” spawned a second miniseries and TV spin-off — written by “The 4400″ co-creator/executive producer Scott Peters.

The new “V” will center on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son who’s got problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them — causing tension within the family. As in the original “V,” several storylines will unfold simultaneously.

Well, we’ve been hearing different rumors and rumblings about a new V project for quite some time now. Of all of the news that has come out, this looks to be the worst. A homeland security agent’s wayward son causes family tensions by befriending the aliens? I hope that this is executed better than it sounds.

I was hoping for a V movie. The mini series scared the hell out of me as a kid and I’ d be curious to see them take the best parts of the original shows and boil them down into an original Hollywood production. Sadly, it looks like we’re going to get another made for television re-imagining. I’m not opposed to more TV V, but I want to see a movie kick it off. In a time where there isn’t a ton of sci fi films with aliens and spaceships; I consider this to be a missed opportunity. I have much less interest in a new TV series.

your right, i hope they exacute it better then it sounds. i swaer i still have one of those V jackets lying around somewhere…you no the one that looks like micheal jacksons haha. ya it scared me as a kid too….when they ripped the face off it was on., or when the baby was born omg.

  2. I enjoyed the original mini-series, but found the regular series a bit anemic. If its executed well it could prove fun…..

  3. Bruce79 says:

I don’t know if their plot sounds good or bad… all I know is that I LOVED LOVED LOVED V when I was a kid. I just hope that it doesn’t turn out to be the suckage that the new Night Rider series is.

  4. BobaFett says:

    V was awesome. In 1985!

And this idea sounds a bit like V meets Traffic. Show me some names behind it (Especially writing) and then I’ll get excited.

For now my enthusiasm will remain tempered.

  5. “written by “The 4400″ co-creator/executive producer Scott Peters” was that the V Final Battle and the series? Or the new version?

If the old, you do a HUGE disservice, as the omission of not only the MB post, but comingsoon as well: you simply cannot mention V without mentioning Ken Johnson, who was also behind many a sci-fi TV show- including the Incredible Hulk and the movie TV series spinoff Alien Nation (*the latter of which became better than the film and that show is ready for a big wake up anytime)

and YES this is sounding real lame, in comparison to the miniseries and final battle. TheTV show…SUCKED EGGS.

  6. BobaFett says:

And never mind ABC, put this on Sci-Fi after BSG’s run and this show should take off if it’s worth anything.

  7. 790 says:

I have to ask if the aliens will still be Reptillain.

    I’m betting they change that.

  8. From Kenneth Johnson, the creator of V…

Because there’s been such an avalanche of e-mail to me from concerned V fans around the world — here’s the latest notice that my web people have posted:

Update 10/13/08 — You will hear reports that Warner Bros TV is attempting to “reimagined”V as a television series. This is relatively old news. Last fall their new concept, which Kenny in not involved with, was passed on by all four networks. Though ABC is again considering the possibility of developing a TV pilot project, it is a script development deal only and does not in any way affect Kenny’s ongoing efforts to remake his original classic as a major motion picture.

When projects that bore Kenny’s original creative stamp and control have been taken on by other people, audiences have seen the results: earlier attempts at reviving V, as well as The Incredible Hulk movies and the recently reimagined Bionic Woman all proved to be serious misfires which unfortunately failed with the critics and with the public.

Kenny’s prime desire is to bring big-screen production values to the new V movie while carefully protecting the timeless story, the characters, quality, integrity and substance that make his original V such a favorite of worldwide audiences and a critically acclaimed, international landmark.

    More soon.

The original series scared the shit out of me too – I used to watch this and I was clearly way too young. I saw an episode a few years ago, and the effects were so pants it’s a wonder how is managed to scare me!! I would be keen to see this revisted – but like you Doug, I would probably prefer a movie than them trying to drag this out for a series.

V was the best thing to happen in the mid 80’s. It will be refreshing to see a series brought back from the dead that actually had a storyline. As long as Willie isnt in it of course. Would be hard to see Freddy Krueger become a lizard.lol
