Book of Shadows

ReinerRob Reiner has been called upon to direct the fantasy based adventure film Book of Shadows. We get the details from our friends at comingsoon:

Castle Rock has picked up Book of Shadows, an action-adventure pitch from Zoe Green that will act as a directing vehicle for Rob Reiner, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows a young man who must embark on the perilous journey of first love and face many trials of maturity while on the dangerous quest to close a mythical book called “Book of Shadows” in order to restore balance to the world.

From the man that brought us When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, This Is Spinal Tap and others comes a new children’s tale about a tome of lore.

This plot outline makes the project sound like an educational after school special. But if Reiner can get the same sort of thing happening here that he did for the Princess Bride, then we may have something great on our hands. Even still, we need to learn more about this film before we can make a call. The above synopsis doesn’t currently inspire me.

Does this sound at all similar to the plot of Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind? Kinda? Maybe? Sorta?

Wasn’t the book of shadows that thing that they weren’t supposed to open but they did in that movie with Brendan Frasier?
