I think it's been at #1 because there's been reltively no competition for at #1. I mean Dark Knight was #3 in it's 7th week and only 3 million back of top spot and a coupel hundred thousand from Second.

"Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" are better classified as satires since they are still original stories that ridicule films in their respective genres. Spoofs (parodies) don't have that "underlying commentary" thing and tend to rely on mimicry and especially wall-breaking to get the laughs across.

oh really? i always thought it was a spoof of Dawn of the Dead...who knew...well then ill take it off my list i guess

and airplane was really good but since its a wee bit old id give it 2nd place. its just not as funny when its that old, but still really good.

and the fact that shawn of the dead was in england and had the accent, it made it 10 times funnier

Shawn of the dead is a comedy zombie movie. Not a spoof.

Airplane was genius and though a handful share that spotlight of quality spoof movies, this current generation is pathetic.

I think, more so than the quality of TT, the fact that it probably does have enough for four straight weeks, is the fact that film goers are much more savy, and no real "blockbuster" or critical darlings have been released since Tropic Thunder. With the only wide release this week being Bangkok Dangerous, people wil be catching Thunder for a second time before anything else once. Also, with it only grossing about 87 million bucks, there are still a ton of people that haven't gone out to see it. That all said, it should be number one this week, and it will be interesting to see how Burn After Reading does in a really jam packed week on the 12th, with Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys, as his last two films have all opened number one...oh, and Righteous Kill opens that week too, which wierdly enough, is the film all of my friends are really excited to see...

See, I think, with the fact that Disaster Movie under performed compared to Meet The Spartans, that people are starting to be annoyed with these films. I have seen the trailer for DM in theatres about 5 or 6 times, and every time, the theatre was completley silent. I think people are not as interested any more...that said, they won't ever stop making them, because they do make money. It's not so much the spoofing that's annoying, it's the style of comedy. It's all lame, slapstick, and joke based comedy. If they could make a film that had a strong narrative, without such blatant spoofs, then I think it could work. Kind of like Scary Movie. It's not the greatest film, Airplane is far and away the best spoof film ever, but that had a somewhat decent story, and still mocked the horror genre. That's what I think, I hope that makes some sense...

i know this sounds stupid but- i think that spoof movies should just be completely IGNORED by all websites that talk about movies. im not talking about TMB..i love TMB..im saying that its just stupid, we shouldnt even mention how they make lots of money...just pretends they dont exist. (not a joke i think that would be a really good idea) i just felt so emberrased and i felt like i wanted the earth to swallow me when i sawll the comercial...cacoon was stupid. these movies are beyond that.
