The above cat was beat to death in a jealous rage by baseball player turned actor Joseph Petcka. We get the following scoop from our friends at CNN:
Trial has begun for a baseball player-turned-actor accused of brutally killing a cat in a jealous rage after complaining that his ex-girlfriend cared more for the furry feline than she did for him.
Assistant District Attorney Leila Kermani said the cat named Norman died with broken teeth, broken ribs, a broken leg, a torn tongue, massive internal injuries including bruised lungs and a bruised liver and a chest cavity filled with blood.
Hochbaum complained the district attorney’s office never offered his client a plea deal. He said outside court he believes that was because of the publicity the case attracted and the urgings of cat fanciers.
You are god damn right they didn’t offer this scum bag a deal. This cat fancier is quite upset; my blood boils over the death of Norman the glorious. I hope Petka gets sent to jail and has real justice thrust upon him, and by that I mean extended and prolonged gang rape.
I enjoy the company of animals and have no love for those that harm the defenseless so they may feel better about themselves. I hope this douche never works again. The type of person that would do this to “get back” at his girlfriend is a tool of the highest order. I was open mouthed when I read this news today. I hope that word will spread of Normans tragic end and that Joseph Petcka will reap the appropriate ire of the public.
Joseph Petcka – Fuck you. Do the only honorable thing left with your life and kill yourself.

I can’t agree with you more Doug. If someone did that to one of our three cats I would kill them with out any hesitation or remorse. There is a special place in hell for people like that guy.

Fyi, Norman actually died in April of 2007, and Petchka is now going to trial. Still unbelievably cruel.

I don’t even know what to say. This is such a sad story. I was open mouthed as well as I read this. Almost wanted to stop reading as it was that upsetting. I myself have a cat that I love very much and anyone who does this to an animal should be beat with a stick, tazed, choked and thrown into a lake somewhere.
Forget going through a trial. Put him in a cage with 10 people who love animals and hate those who hurt animals.

Horrible story. Disturbing reactions. I wonder, if the cat had been a human being, would people hope for the assailant to be raped? What if the assailant had been female?
As heinous a crime as animal cruelty is (and it is heinous), I’m more than slightly perturbed at the rampant demands for rape as a punishment. With rape such a rampant and widespread evil in our prisons – just imagine yourselves in jail, ladies and gents, it doesn’t have to be for anything horrific – and the immediate calls for its implementation (as if it were not a plague, but a feature), I wonder how much distance separates the perpetrator from those demanding this punishment.
It’s less than you’d think.
I know i’m in the minority here but so what? I’m not saying it’s right. The guy’s obviously sick in the head. But jail time? I say fine him so it hurts and move on. I think the system has plenty, PLENTY of unsolved murders and beatings to deal with where the victims are people. I mean what’s next? Accidentally run over a squirrel gets you an ‘animal slaughter’ charge? 5 to 10 years?! Plus, if they put this guy in jail suddenly there’s no more room for Joe-Ax-Murderer who hasn’t quite finished his sentence so gets let out early. Frankly i think this animal felony stuff is pretty silly
