No Money For Old Men

Tommy Lee Jones2BTommy Lee Jones is sticking it to the man. He claims he’s owed about 10 million smackeroos for his work on No Country For Old Men. We get wind of this suit thanks to the longhorn caves of Yahoo:

Tommy Lee Jones is suing the makers of “No Country for Old Men” for more than $10 million that the Oscar-winning actor claims he is owed for starring in the 2007 hit crime thriller.

The suit says Jones was paid a reduced upfront fee in joining the film, and that his contract had known errors not corrected before the movie was made. Jones, 61, is asking that an auditor be named to review financial records to determine how much he should be paid.

Ten million seems like quite a bit of money for this production. Then again, if bonuses were promised based on performance then Mr. Jones must get his cut as per the agreement. It sucks that anyone has to go to court over money, but when millions are on the line – I can see how some might be reluctant to hand it over.

At the end of the day, I hope the judge can use the wisdom of the ages to determine what is just and fair; and come to a satisfactory conclusion for all.

  2. In fact, the post title is so awesome that John (just to pay you back for the AWESOME!) should have to go one a pilgrimage to the great North and find “Mjolnir” and bring it back to you… this way you can wield Mjolnir’s mighty power and wreak havok on all that try to cross your fucking path!

  3. I don’t give a shit one way or the other. Sure, he deserves what he worked for. He shouldn’t work for free. God knows I wouldn’t. (actually, I would do a Coen brothers movie for free… but I’m not a well known Movie Star) Still, 10 Million is a lot of duckets to try to come up with.

My point is this: Mr. Doug Nagy… “No Money For Old Men”… you are hereby awarded the best movie blog post title of all time!

    FUCKING AWESOME!

  4. PadThai, holy crap, we get it. You’ve left 3 notes telling us that you don’t think TLJ is correct.
Tommy Lee Jones has in his possession an agreement signed by a studio that says “Hey, if [situation A] happens, we’ll give you, Tommy Lee Jones [X amount] of dollars.”
    — Well, “Situation A” happened – They now owe him money. An undetermined amount mind you, BUT IT’S ON A FRICKIN’ CONTRACT! Tommy Lee Jones isn’t just turning around and suing a movie studio that provided him with work just for the hell of it, he was promised money based on various circumstances, and he didn’t receive it. It’s perfectly reasonable to ask for your share. Whether you’re a millionaire or not.
Sure, you and I can get pissed off that *WE* don’t have a million dollars and if we were rich, we wouldn’t care about more money. But the fact remains that an agreement was signed. You Agreed To It, You Pay It.

  5. Tommy Lee Jones is such an asshole. I hope this lawsuit really gets the Hollywood studios to blacklist this guy for the rest of his entire existence. These low budget indie movies are tough enough to make a profit on, but then Jones has to go and sue them for 10 million dollars.

  6. Ok, so I have 2000 bucks in my savings, but I’m still pissed as fuck if my work skimps out on my paychecks, even if it’s only 30 bucks. It’s my money. I worked for it, I earned it, and I was not given it.

Same thing here, only on a much larger scale.

  7. ^

That would be hard to believe that he is doing it for the money. Can’t imagine he is any less than rich beyond belief as it is. I’m on his side. I’d be upset if I didn’t get paid the correct amount either, but 10 million sounds like a bit much :p

  8. I hope Jones doesn’t get a single penny. He doesn’t deserve it, I bet he signed on thinking this will be another indie movie that doesn’t make any money. Then it did better than he expected, so now he wants his share.
