Mario Van Peebles Set To Direct Kerosene Cowboys

MariovanpeeblesMario “the wolf” Van Peebles is set to direct an airborne actioner in Kerosene Cowboys! We get the following scoop from our friends at the movieweb:

Cam Gigandet, Shane West and Rachael Leigh Cook have signed on to star in the action thriller Kerosene Cowboys, directed by Mario Van Peebles for Svarog-Afterburner Films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story is based on a novel by Randy Arrington and follows the rough-riding and hard-living pilots of an elite Navy attack squadron. Gigandet will star as a hot-shot pilot, West plays his one-time best friend-turned-nemesis, while Cook will play an investigative journalist and Gigandet’s love interest.

Mario Van Peebles could very well have one of the greatest names ever given. We take his name for granted, but mull it over. Say it a few times to yourself, and soak it in. Mario Van Peebles, Van Peebles, Peebles. The man was born an MVP, and now he’s all grown up directing films.

A movie about rowdy pilots suits me just fine. With luck we will see some scenes where pilots drive drunk. That would make me chuckle, I want to see a pilot get juiced and fly into a flock of seagulls (har har), or a gang of 20 (or so) pregnant villagers. Either option is hilarious!

We will be sure to keep you up to speed on this film and the directing works of the man known as Van Peebles.

  1. I read Randy Arrington’s book “Kerosene Cowboys” this past weekend. I just couldn’t put it down. My husband who is a Navy F-18 pilot will be home in 3 months and I can’t wait for him to read it as well. The novel made me laugh, and cry and get pissed at times, but it was all great fun. Mario will undoubtedly make a fabulous flick called Kerosene Cowboys.

  2. My young son and I recently met Randy Arrington at a book signing in San Diego. I must confess that this soon-to-be celebrity author was a real pleasure to speak with. Not something I was expecting from a former Navy pilot who used to land jets on the pitching deck of an aircraft carrier at night. Arrington is a stunningly handsome man, but likewise he is a very down to earth human being who is obviously quite at ease while interacting with the general public. His sense of humility about the success of his book and the upcoming movie based on his novel was, in a word, refreshing and I am glad my son was there to witness his demeanor. I highly recommend picking up a copy of his novel “Kerosene Cowboys: Manning the Spare.” It is simply a brilliant and extremely entertaining piece of contemporary writing. My son Derek and I can’t wait to see the movie and all of Arrington’s incredible characters up on the silver screen.
