Hairspray Sequel In The Works?

Queen Latifa has spilled the beans, and is suggesting that a Hairspray sequel may be coming down the pipe. We get the scoop from our friends at MTV:

“I got a secret e-mail about that recently,” the Queen has revealed to us, insisting that her character of Motormouth Maybelle is in for a comeback alongside co-stars John Travolta, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes and others.

“I got an e-mail from people connected to the last movie,” the Oscar-nominated actress/hip-hop legend added. “It said: ‘Keep your ears peeled.’”

I certainly don’t think this should be a series of films. I enjoyed both Hairspray films, preferred the original with Ricki Lake and Divine, and haven’t seen the stage production.

Without question, John Waters must be the one to pen this sequel. As luck would have it, a quick jaunt over to IMDB reveals that this in fact the case; good news indeed.

The man is a master of the outlandish and any hope that I have for this film rests in his supple hands. Even though I have no desire for a sequel, if Waters can throw in some classic chicken fucking to surprise the moviegoing public – It will all be worth while.

I was first introduced to the works of Mr. Waters from a high-school friend named Gord. Gord did a local radio show naked and now does much online. He may still do his radio program on CFBU radio in St. Catharines but I am uncertain. I am forever in Gord’s debt for showing me the way to the Waters.

A sequel to “Hairspray?” What’s it going to be called? “Mousse?”

    ZING!

The only way I would be interested in a possible sequel is if John Waters wrote it otherwise it would be dead to me.

I finally sat down and watched the updated Hairspray, which I found pleasant, but not nearly as good as the original. I did really love James Marsden in the movie he was fantastic.

Oh and if there is a sequel I hope they recast Zac Efron – I really did not like him as Link at all.

It’s been listed on IMDb for awhile. And Shankman has talked about it before as well.
