Punisher Warzone Rumors Silenced

PunisherskullIt appears some of the news we have been hearing from the Punisher: War Zone camp may have been fabricated. The following scoop from cinematical via Vic will hopefully put them to bed.

Vic Holtreman at ScreenRant has passed along a post (sent to them by a poster who’s been a steady presence in the comment field on every Punisher: War Zone story — hi, Nomad) that cinematographer Steve Gainer made on The Raw Board. Gainer is pretty fed up with all the rumors circulating, and insists that Lexi Alexander is not off the film, she’s very much involved in the editing process, the film will not be PG-13, and that she did get married. Gainer writes, “When I hear vicious unfounded troll rumors like the “film was unwatchable” or “a total mess” it makes my blood boil.

Well I for one am glad that the Restricted rating will remain. Quality gun violence needs the freedom of a Restricted rating, and the Punisher requires that level of excellence. At this point I am wondering what’s real and what’s fake with regards to all of the news we have heard about this film. I suppose that we will see soon enough and be able to make the decision based on the finished work.

One of the downsides of internet news is that often it will swirl around the globe 30 times before someone finds out that it’s bullshit. This is all fine and good if you follow the story for the correction, but if you just read a false news blurb and never touch the story again, the false news will remain truth to you.

  1. i really like lexis intensity even though people seem to hate her. and not to mention assholes think she cant direct a punisher movie because shes a girl which is fucking ignorant. and yes- i can quote people saying she cant….

    @handle
yeah man- i dont get it either. i found out about the 2nd trailer and i was shocked no one here even talked about it but w.e…..and yes the teaser sucked but there WAS a 2nd and it looked awsome…
why would they want to burry it in the comic con if it was such a kick-ass trailer? doesnt make sence to me….

  2. IGN has the footage. Everyone can watch it. Looks like fun gory action if that is your type of thing. Luckily for me it is, and I believe it suits the character.

Search for it there. No one seems to mention it here for some reason. They just hate on the original teaser (which was dreadful).

  3. Well if the Comic-con footage was so great then why only show it a Comic-con to a few ppl. Why not release the footage so the studio can get the movie hyped? I believe Doug and John talked about the Punisher Panel’s time being changed so they couldnt get in. Why would they do that? Sounds like the film is not being backed by the studio at all.

  4. That’s why there is like 4-5 minute comic con footage that no one ever seems to mention when discussing how terrible the film looks.

    The teaser released = horrible

Comic-con footage = looks like a completely different film aka awesome

  5. I dont care whats been said online good or bad. I wait till I see the trailer. Right now the teaser I seen was pretty terrible and didnt get me excited in the least.

  6. Well as stated above, Lexi has gotten married, so I imagine that’s taken a lot of her time. Plus, there’s never as much to report as there is when filming is going on.

And Studios VERY rarely actually come down from th Heavens to comment on false news stories, so that’s not so unusual.

  7. Deja vue all over again. Weren’t there heated discussion a few weeks back when this site posted “news” that Punisher was going to suck ass even before seeing it? I was one of the few who thought it was unfair to post his “opinion” of it until actually seeing it. I hope Punisher kicks Thomas Janes sissy ass.

  8. I second Mr Goodbar’s comments. It seems bizarre.

I am quite willing to believe that the PG13 rumour was bull though. I still maintain the flicker of hope through all this that the film could be ok.

  9. Mr.Gainer’s explanation sounds fine.

However my one question still remains:

Why did Lexi Alexander (director) suddenly become silent on her blog??

I say this because during filming she was updating the damn thing EVERYDAY.

Plus i wonder why this information was released via a blog by the cinematographer? Why hasn’t Lionsgate said anything?

    just some thoughts

  10. I really sincerely hope this one will be good or better than the last. The last one had too many stupid shit in it like gay guys kissing, fake fire-hydryants, cheesy lines, slow pacing, and the action sucked. This is like the third try at the Punisher story, it’s getting to be really hopeless. But still i hope there’s something better than the trailers have shown. I’m more excited for Max Payne than this movie.
